Donald Trump wasted no time responding to Meryl Streep's remarks at Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards where the actress gave a somber speech about the President-elect.
Trump called Streep "one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood" in a tweet Monday morning calling her a "Hillary flunky who lost big."
Shortly after the 74th annual Golden Globes wrapped, where "La La Land" and "Moonlight" were the nights big winners, Trump told the NY Times he had not seen the show or Streep's remarks. He also added that he was "not surprised" for coming under attack from "liberal movie people" especially a "Hillary Lover" like Streep.
He continued to defend his behavior from an interview with a disabled reporter in 2015 in which he insists he didn't mock anyone, a moment Streep had said was an example of Trump's "instinct to humiliate."
"I was never mocking anyone. I was calling into question a reporter who had gotten nervous because he had changed his story," he told the paper in a phone interview after the Globes. "People keep saying I intended to mock the reporters disability, as if Meryl Streep and others could read my mind, and I did no such thing."
His tweets Monday morning echoed his thoughts late Sunday night.

These actors are idiots with a big mic, nothing more.
Me too.
Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners and if we kick them all out, youll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts, Streep said, prompting what CNN described as huge applause from the gathered A-listers.
Yeah except no ones getting kicked out of anywhere are they, so thats all fake.
In fact, if Trump really did want to kick out foreign born people residing in America, hed probably have to start with his own wife. If his mother were still alive, hed also have to show her the door.
So, yeah, unlikely, and completely made up.
I think I understand where you're coming from - but insipid narcissists like Streep feed even on negative attention. Trump shouldn't waste a second of his time even thinking of them. Responding to them creates the impression that he regards such detractors as his equals or near-equals.
I say that as a 100% Trump supporter.
Regards,
I feel DJT needs to ignore Holly-Weird 100%.
No WH visits, dinners etc. No interaction at all unless they do something deserving recognition and positive for ALL the people.
Gary Sinise comes to mind
Totally agree. Trump needs to stop swatting at these gnats and get to work. He has plenty of others that can do the swatting for him.
I sincerely hope that you're wrong!
Aren't there surrogates who would be better suited to launch counterattacks and/or defend Trump?
The President should not sully himself by engaging in verbal exchanges with attention-whores like Streep.
Regards,
I certainly agree. Trump is still in his bare-knuckles primary mode. At this point I'd like him to shift into using something more sophisticated, a verbal Aikido if you will. Reagan was quite successful in that regard.
Agreed.
Trump needs to swat back at these leftist goons. Look where nicey-nicey from various Repubs got us. No quarter. Crush these fools to dust.
Trump is wrong for two reasons. 1 it shoud be beneath him to respond to an attack from a hollywood award show. Anyone who agrees with this or watches hollywood for their political opinion is not going to be converted to his cause by a tweet response to an actor in a thank you speech.
Second. She is the best actress since Katherine Hepburn and maybe better. She rivals the finest British actresses of the last 50 years. She does accents better than anyone and some speech specialist say she is often dead on. Her range of performances is very broad, musicals, dramas comedies. The range of characters she has played dis wider than any one I can point to. And she is recognized by her peers as the greatest.
Sometimes we confuse the politics wth the actors skill and I think thats what we are doing here.
Good. I've waited decades for someone in authority to tell these people to take a flying leap.
If I were Trump, I would have tweaked my response to say something like, “They can say whatever they want about me, I don’t care. But they insult the millions of Americans who want to Make America Great Again, and that is what I call them out on.”
whoopee Goldberg made fun of Senator Dole at one of those stupid events.
Posting-of-the-Day Award!
Regards,
Why does Streep want half the country to hate and resent her? Not too smart!
There are many exceptions to this role playing, btw, it is by no means universal. As usual, we only hear from the loudmouths.
SHE (the Streep) was repeating a LIE...THAT needs responding to...how he worded it is up for debate
I disagree on both counts.
