Any woman who claims her son's better off without a dad needs her head examined

Full Title: Any woman who claims her son's better off without a dad needs her head examined: As actress January Jones says she is GLAD her little boy doesn't have a father, a guilt-ridden single mother blasts her comments

Chatting to my teenage daughter over a family dinner the other evening, I paused to reprimand my nine-year-old son for slurping his spaghetti and making a terrible mess in the process.

'You can't tell me off,' he spat back. 'I'm the man of the house.'

Of course I was cross with Charlie for being so impudent, and told him so in no uncertain terms. But at the same time I felt terribly sorry for my confused little boy, growing up, as he is, in a home without a father, and a much-needed role model.

I was, therefore, appalled yesterday to read that the actress January Jones, of Mad Men fame, believes that her five-year-old son is better off fatherless.

Speaking about her son, Xander, the 39-year-old actress told Red magazine: 'He doesn't have a male person saying "Don't cry" or "You throw like a girl". All those s***** things dads accidentally do.'

However, as a fellow single mum, I couldn't disagree more. Of course, many mothers raise children well without fathers after death, divorce or as a result of lifestyle choices. But I have never heard of a mother celebrating the fact that her son has no one to call 'Dad'.

Little girls need a daddy to show them how they should be treated by a man.

Little boys need a daddy to show them how to be a man.

And as an aside - if either of my little boys is ever stupid enough to say such a thing to his mama he won't need any punishment from me; he'll already have a red imprint of my wife's fingers on the side of his face. 'Course, that doesn't mean I won't give him what he needs as soon as I get home. We're a team, after all.

Anyone who thinks actresses are qualified to advise normal people needs his/her head examined.

Remember all the years of our being told what a great couple, what great parents, what a great example Brad and Angelina were? And now what ... we learn it was all a disaster all along.

It’s not money, travel, celebrity, special schools, etc., that children need. Normal married parents are best.

Sorry, the evidence says otherwise.

The greatest harm is the psychological impact of having the single parent create a co-dependency on the child rather than a spouse. This forces the child’s personality to develop as the compliment to the stronger mother’s personality.

If you look at a very high percentage of feminine men you will find that they had a strong co-dependent mother.

I wouldn't take advice from anyone who names her kid Xander.

Heck -- I would even hesitate to follow her advice to flee from a burning house.

The other important influence is that a child in the womb can not differentiate between their own experiences and those of the mother.

A mother’s anger toward the child’s father while the child is in utero creates a lifelong anger toward the father by the child.

In general I agree but that may depend on the dad.

I would agree that every child needs a male father figure while growing up. That does not mean that their biological father is suitable to fulfill these needs.

Doesn’t it say in the Bible: ‘ Hate the father, destroy the child.’ ?

Numbers don’t lie. Fatherless children are more likely to do badly in school, do drugs, drop out before graduation, have trouble with the law, bear children out of wedlock, etc.

WHY on earth would a sane woman want to stack the deck against her child?

'You can't tell me off,' he spat back. 'I'm the man of the house.'

He is legitimately angry because he should not be in the position of being the "man of the house." He should be the little boy of the house, but because adults put their "choices" above his welfare, he is stuck with what he's got. Not only that, he has to pretend that he agrees that adults have the right to put themselves first.

Many, many women live in a fantasy world, and without a man in their lives their is no control or “gate” to control their hysterical impulses and behaviors. And their children suffer for it.

They use their self-absorbed pre-crazy cat lady friends as sounding boards, so of course they diverge from common cense and reality. This could have easily been predicted.

They serve to weaken and fray the fabric of society with their capricious desires.

That sounds like a bit of unscientific sophistry! The child having been born and raised by an angry mom may be influenced emotionally and psychologically to develop such a loathing of dad, but there is no proof that this “set path to daddy hatred” starts in utero via some voodoo spiritual or unknown chemical/enzymatic apparatus!

If your father role is to physically harm your child in the name of some sort of sick “discipline”, he may indeed be better off without you in his life.

And your lovely wife should not be hitting the child in the face.

You two need help.

A person could speculate that the increase in gender identity issues is due to the increase in the number of abortions.

For those who believe in reincarnation, a traumatic death at any stage of development after conception has an impact upon the next life.

From personal experience I would say that it very definitely depends on the man.

I don't know where I'd be today without the softening effect my father had on me. I had a termagant mother who made my life a living hell! All children need a father as well as a mother!

Have you ever seen that commercial about foster parents in which a dad with an adopted daughter accidentally dyes his hair orange, bumps his fender and mistakenly drowns his plants with a gushing hose? Not only is it funny, it gets to the heart of what a real parent is. And it ain’t money and travel - it’s love and devotion.
