Trump team defends NSC Director of Communications Nominee, Monica Crowley on plagiarism claims
Yahoo News via AP ^ | 01/08/2017

President-elect Donald Trump's transition team is defending the syndicated talk show host Monica Crowley, named as a communications specialist for the incoming administration, against plagiarism accusations.

CNN reports that Crowley plagiarized large sections of her 2012 book, "What The (Bleep) Just Happened."

In its report, CNN says it found more than 50 examples of plagiarism from numerous sources, including copying with no changes or minimal changes from news articles, other columnists and think tanks.

The publisher, HarperCollins' Broadside Books, had no comment on the CNN report.

Crowley has been named Trump's director of communications for the White House's National Security Council.

In response to the CNN report, a Trump transition spokesperson commended Crowley for her "exceptional insight and thoughtful work on how to turn this country around" and said that is "exactly why she will be serving in the administration."

The Trump transition team says any attempt to discredit Crowley "is nothing more than a politically motivated attack that seeks to distract from the real issues facing this country."

I was about to post that the referenced article didn’t provide the “over 50 examples.....”. So I searched and found the original article that has the examples and, as much as I like her, she has a BIG problem. Pretty damning side by side examples.

Yikes! The comparisons are incriminating to say the least. If it was just one or two it could be overlooked, but page after page of these looks really bad for her. Hope it can be explained as she is a good pick for Trump.

Looks like the Media DeathStar, which is manned by #SpiritCooking pedophile supporters, wants to take down a Trump appointee.

When did Americans start paying attention to gaslighting pedo boosters, anyway?

How soon we forget that we were gaslighted by the self-same podestaphile-supporting #SpiritCooking Media until 9pm on November 8th, 2016.

Call the Media what they are - devil-worshipping scum who will do ANYTHING to "get at" Trump.

This is more of the same.

Flip them off, and move on to the future.

Did she cite the sources? If she did, this is a non-issue. If she didn’t, not good.

I can't believe that you all just got gaslighted by these same Media scumbags for most of a year, and now you're suddenly taking them seriously again.

If Monica Crowley was a President Hillary appointee with the very same problems, there wouldn't be a WHISPER in the Media about it, and if there was, there'd be a phalanx of Media spearcatchers willing to go to the mattresses to support Her choice.

Laugh at them, mock them, and flip them off. That's the ONLY attention that they deserve.

Go over to Twitter and hammer them. You'll only get a shot or two before the Lefty Twitter mods swarm in to protect them, so make it count. 😀

“Trying to get to the actual facts of the story - did she actually verbatim quote other authors, journalists, and publications with no attributions?”

She sure did - whole paragraphs worth in some cases. CNNMoney actually did a side-by-side comparison of 50 passages that show clear plagiarism.

There are only three possibilities:

1) She was INCREDIBLY sloppy because of deadline, poor organization, etc. Someone could then say she is not up to this job.

2) She knew exactly what she was doing. By the way, this is the second time she has been accused of plagiarism. This is NOT the first time.

Wikipedia: “She was previously accused of plagiarism in 1999 for a 1998 commentary published in The Wall Street Journal.[11] link to that footnoted source: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/chatterbox/1999/08/nixons_monica_stonewalls_about_plagiarism.html

Someone could then say she is not up to this job because she’s inherently dishonest, a thief.

3) Someone else did the “work” for her and took “shortcuts” to get it done and get paid sooner. Someone could then say she is not up to this job because she’s a poor manager.

Mind you, I am willing to overlook all of this to keep the Trump train on track. Monica Crowley will have an important job, but won’t be an important public figure.

I guess I am not willing to just overlook it as I think it speaks to a larger issue that has infested our society of allowing corruption to remain unchecked if we think it can benefit a cause which we support.

I understand honest mistakes. I can even understand a Mea Culpa for past bad actions if one has truly repented...but allowing this kind of blatant fraud to just be swept under the rug will simply encourage more of it in the future. And that is the whole problem with our government, our society and, honestly, our personal lives!

Don’t mean to get on a soapbox but when exactly do we take a stand on right vs wrong instead of living in the gray world of selective moral outrage?

Did you vote for Trump? Then you didn’t take a stand against the gray world of selective moral outrage. I voted for him, but I did it because I wanted the country to be saved. I knew I was voting for a flawed man in the process. Monica Crowley is flawed. I’ll take her too. Sometimes your allies and your leaders are far from perfect. If your enemy is far, far worse, then you really don’t have much of a choice if your only choice is really one or the other.

Plagiarism means you publish communications and claim it is you originating it. Quoting someone is not plagiarism if it appears in your communications. Another case of liberals redefining words to establish a negative fake news image they falsely claim to be fact?

The people "reporting" on Crowley are the same people who gaslighted us ALL on the election till 9pm on Tuesday, November 8th.

To cure yourself of being afflicted by their SELECTIVE reporting, just think back to that November day.

When did the cloud of gaslighting fog finally lift for you? What time, exactly?

I was in doubt until about 7:30ish. If your "time" was later than that, then you got a heavier dose of gaslighting than I did.

Some of my friends didn't realize until midnight - but they don't have the sources that I do.

Now, back to Crowley. This is the same kind of gaslighting. Sniff. Doesn't it smell the same? 😀

You said it better than I could have, so I will refer people to your response when discussing this issue. I hate to say it, but it stinks, and IMNSHO, it stinks bad enough that Trump should reconsider her appointment.

It cuts no ice with me when people say, “The Democrats have done much worse.” The Democrats are crooks and always have been. Their entire political ethos is built on theft. Republicans must, and historically have, demand better from their leaders, and the people that work for them.

For Trump to keep Crowley on board with his ink stain on her rep would be to risk being stained with the same taint of corruption that had long infested “politics as usual” in Washington. Disturbing to say the least.

I don’t know any more than is written in the article and other articles on the same topic.

vladimir998 wrote an excellent response below that expresses my feelings exactly. Please refer to it.

I really like Monica Crowley. I have for many years. I can’t say, however, that this is gaslighting. CNNMoney showed 50 passages - quite lengthy ones - that were clearly plagiarized. I’m not saying Trump should dump her. I’m just saying she sure seems guilty as all get out in this instance.

"Yikes! The comparisons are incriminating to say the least. If it was just one or two it could be overlooked, but page after page of these looks really bad for her."

That is NOT what I call "plagiarism." At worst, it is bad footnoting. Plagiarism is taking someone else's work - a body of work, a unit of work - and claiming it as your own. What Crowley did is take a group of factoids from a wide variety of sources, and reassemble them in her own narrative.

For example, the Churchill story: I've heard that a dozen times in different sources. For her to repeat that joke - which has been in the public domain for years - can hardly be considered "plagiarism."

Likewise, most of the other instances of "plagiarism" consist of her repeating certain facts in her own words. If she says, "On September 11, 2001, terrorists flew two planes into New York's World Trade Center, killing more than 3,000 people," and you can find some news account that says basically the same thing in basically the same words, is that plagiarism?

Selective publicizing.

JUST LIKE the Trump tape that got dropped in October.

What time on November 8th did you realize that the Media had been lying to us? Exactly what time?

I just saw Chris Cuomo starting this Mitt up again the other day when he had The Magnificent Kellyanne on his propaganda broadcast.

I could post the piece and explain what he was up to, if you'd like.

“Selective publicizing.”

Yes, and she’s still been caught plagiarizing twice.

“JUST LIKE the Trump tape that got dropped in October.”

Yes, but there’s no doubt Trump said what he said.

“What time on November 8th did you realize that the Media had been lying to us?”

What time on January 8th did you think I said something about that?

Exactly what time?

“I could post the piece and explain what he was up to, if you’d like.”

No, thanks. I would rather be better informed than relying on your play-by-play of CNN. Quite frankly you seem rather stupid.

“Erect the Middle Finger.”

Suck on it, snowflake. Deal with reality, unlike the liberals.
