I share the doubts that Trump would be a “new King”; one big reason is that his supporters tend to be the kind of Americans who wouldn’t favor a president who was king in all but name.
Who’s been compared to a king? I wonder if any “old king” (cf. “Herod the king,” “we have no king but Caesar”) would be a current president, who more than other recent presidents has been compared unfavorably to a king. Years ago, leftists were already hostile to that comparison. Maybe this realization, even if a slight one, is an undercurrent of leftist reaction.
I’m pretty sure Priebus was referring to Jesus, just as the Bible does-the idiots who are supposedly outraged by this have been outraged by every positive and hopeful message or occurrence since November 9th-it makes their heads explode-people can’t stop paying attention to them soon enough...
