President-elect Donald Trump needs to heal, not revel. That is, he must work on healing the divided country he is about to lead, not continue to revel in his victory with a round of thank-you rallies.
Instead, we see: Trump griping about the political correctness of being named "person of the year." Quieting, but not really, chants of "lock her up." Revving up the crowd against the "very dishonest" media. Thanking African Americans who "didn't come out to vote." Jabbing at the "foolish" White House press secretary for daring to point out that candidate Trump had encouraged Russian hacking.

This is the sixth presidential transition I have witnessed, beginning with Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan in 1980, and the mood of the city is like no other. "Anxious" does not begin to convey the profound sense of worry.

Now, sober-minded people speak in all seriousness about fears for the future of the republic and the prospect of impeachment. These are not wild leftists but experienced hands, with long historical memories and understanding of how power ebbs and flows here. Whether or not these dire prognostications prove correct, the fact they are being voiced is alarming.

Worry! Yes, worry in DC. Worry like no other time before. Well , yes. Yes, of course. Because at this juncture there is corruption in DC like never before. And the corrupt aparatchiks of DC know that a new Sheriff is coming to town; and he is POd.
Trump not sworn in yet and the libs already yammering about impeachment.
We’ve got 8 years of this crap coming up.

The fact that you think a an alleged sober-minded person pontificating about impeachment makes impeachment a possibility before he can even take the oath of office is even more alarming. There is no evidence that the Russians did any hacking at all. There is evidence that it was an internal leak. There is no evidence that even suggests that Donald Trump colluded with Russia even if they did hack the DNC. Extraordinary allegations require at least some proof, and instead all we have is a bunch of bald assertions, and some pontificating asses acting as if they were established fact. This is not the way sober minds deliberate and conclude.
Ya, right. “Anxious” for the elites in Washington. Relief and hope for the rest of Americans in the real United States that we can hope for tax relief and regulation relief from Obama and his merry band of socialists that have strangeled the American middle class.
I notice you write all of the following opinion pieces for the Washington Compost in the past 40 days. All considered hateful if written by a conservative. But thats right. you are the typical liberal self-loathing . . . and that makes it ok by your hypocritical double-standards.
9 Nov A Prayer for America
11 Nov A letter from my daughter: My heart aches profoundly for our country
18 Nov Bad news: Trump is not becoming any more presidential
23 Nov Breitbart isnt just a publication. It's a pestilence
2 Dec Welcome to the post-truth presidency
12 Dec The Trump team aims to make all news and facts open to disbelief
18 Dec Trump Needs to get over his Victory
Am pretty sure YOU are the one who needs to get over defeat and move on.
The Washington Post needs to disappear because it serves no purpose other than as a megaphone for Jeff Bezos who is on the wrong side of America!!!!
I think the tour is a positive thing. The dims get to see how many people can get rallied to march on them should it become necessary. It’s a “friendly” kind of warning, one a patient mother might get before the words “pick yer switch” have to be used.
Laughter galore.
Ruth appears to have alienated a wide swath of WAPO readers. Just read the comments section.
Naw, I want him to gloat some more and really rub their noses in it.

They’ve been living well while the rest of the country suffered. I’m glad they’re worried.
Trump's victory is a victory for the bright, the decent, the ascendant, the responsible, the civilized, the informed, the intelligent, for the American Dream, truth, justice, health, goodness, and decency, all that America stands for.
It is a defeat for decadence, evil, darkness, crime, savagery, and destruction.
THERE IS MUCH TO CELEBRATE!
Those at the Washington Post can decide--or perhaps they have already decided--which side of this divide they want to be on.
For the rest of us: LET THE CELEBRATION CONTINUE! AMERICA LIVES ON! VIVA DONALD TRUMP--AND THANK YOU FROM A GRATEFUL NATION!
There is no point in making an effort to "heal", not when America's enemies on the left are working hard to delegitimize President Trump and overturn the election results. What we need is for the Trump Coalition to stay involved, motivated, and sufficiently angry (even at this late date) that Hillary's thugs will not dare to steal the election. President Trump is handling this in exactly the right way.
Victory. Victory. Victory.
Fears for the future of the republic?
If we can withstand 8 years of the jug-eared, mooselimb, communist, halfrican, prick, then it's all smiles and giggles from here on in.
You; obviously; have not aced Parsing 101
Then they'd better put heavy bricks in their purses!
