Fat is GOOD for you! New research says cheese and cream to PREVENT diabetes and heart risk

Current dietary advice says foods containing high levels of saturated fats such as cream, butter, red meat, eggs and cheese should be avoided because they increase the risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and cancer.

But a study published in a leading medical journal has found the opposite is true, with a diet full of natural fats improving the health of people taking part.

Professor Sherif Sultan, a heart specialist from the University of Ireland, said: “We urgently need to overturn current dietary guidelines."

"People should not be eating high carbohydrate diets as they have been told over the past decade.

“Instead our diets should be largely based on good quality high-fat foods. This will prevent the rising epidemic of Type 2 diabetes and reverse the growing numbers of people suffering weight-related heart problems.”

The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found overweight middle-aged men who ate high levels of saturated fat and low levels of carbohydrate became slimmer and healthier.

Researchers also saw reduced blood pressure and glucose levels, which are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and cancer, in the patients.

Dr. Atkins had this figured out years ago.

I eat a low carb diet (no rice, bread, pasta...the good stuff). Skinny as a bean pole...and low cholesterol too.

Work out daily and still drink beer.

Beer is the miracle food. In the middle ages, beer was still a food stuff.

It still is in my house.;-)

I’ve been eating milk, cheese, and butter all along. Frankly I wouldn’t touch the official advice about diet with a ten foot pole.

Same here. Twice in my life I have had to lose 100 pounds. Each of those times, I cut back on the carbs and eliminate bread, rice, added sugars etc.

The first time I lost 100 pounds was in 2003 and I combined the low carb with an exercise program. I figured the exercise did the trick so I gradually introduced foods like pizza, ice cream and baked goods back into my diet. The weight very quickly came back on.

I now realize that carbs (sugar) is the culprit. So for a second time I cut back the carbs and the weight slid off once again. Now I drink my coffee black and pass on dessert. However, the upside is that I get to eat all the meat, butter, eggs and cheese I want.

LOL! But I think the sugar negates the ‘low carb’ instruction ;-)

Same here.

Dietary advice is pure BS. Persons offered a wide array of food choices through childhood and into adulthood will choose a satisfactory diet without the nanny doctors guessing (and that is what it amounts to) about what is good for you.

Agreed. Much of it is politically motivated, especially now, when people believe the federal government should be monitoring their diet. Just be reasonable, don’t eat too much of anything, eat only occasional highly processed foods or fast food, and you’ll be eating well!

And BACON! Which probably has its own drawbacks, but it’s a great treat if you’re low-carbing, and we tell ourselves that everything evens out ;-)

A link on the same page: “ High Fat Diet Causes Cancer To Metastasize Faster!”

I guess I can see that if it’s the bad fats.

"People should not be eating high carbohydrate diets as they have been told over the past decade.

More like five or six decades since the low cholesterol, low fat dietary advice has been around. Eliminate all that and one necessarily increases carbohydrate intake.
