Rudy Giuliani withdraws his name from consideration for cabinet post

Rudolph W. Giuliani, a former New York mayor and an early backer of Donald Trump, has withdrawn his name for consideration for a Trump administration job. Giuliani was on the president-elect’s shortlist for secretary of state.

In a statement, the Trump transition team said Giuliani informed Trump of his withdrawal at a Nov. 29 meeting. Giuliani delivered a letter to Trump, who declined to accept it at that meeting. On Friday, Giuliani again asked Trump to withdraw his name, and he accepted, according to a senior transition official.

Giuliani said in a statement that the decision was “not about me.”

“It is about what is best for the country and the new administration,” he said. “Before I joined the campaign I was very involved and fulfilled by my work with my law firm and consulting firm, and I will continue that work with even more enthusiasm.”

“From the vantage point of the private sector, I look forward to helping the President-elect in any way he deems necessary and appropriate,” he added.

In a statement, Trump called Giuliani a “close personal friend” whom he would continue to call upon for advice while in office.

“Rudy would have been an outstanding member of the Cabinet in several roles, but I fully respect and understand his reasons for remaining in the private sector,” Trump added.

My heart hurts. I was so looking forward to an administration with Rudy in it somewhere.

“It is about what is best for the country and the new administration,”...

For all those that dislike him on the board, one of the FEW people who helped Trump because he loved the country and wasn’t expecting something for it.

A great man, a great mayor and a great American.

I think he wanted a position in the cabinet and Trump gave him the chance to bow out on his own.

Being the man of character that he is, he would not attack or insult Trump.

I am heartbroken, but he will at the very least ALWAYS be NY’s only mayor to me.

It’s a pressure job, you’d really have to want to do it.

This makes me wonder about RG’s health status. It’s clear that Trump wanted him as part of “the team.”

I agree with you.

It’s starting to look like Newt and Rudy were pushed out.

I don’t like it.

RG’s “pushiness” would only have been a complement to DJT’s presidency. I really think this is about RG’s health, and that makes me very sad.

I know right? Think how different the tone would be if Newt were the CoS instead of Rinse Prius.

Why is this a shocker?

Trump's management style is that he doesn't like yes-men or people who are too eager to get the job. He wants people who are detached, aloof even, who are doing this out of both reluctance and the greater good of the company (or country).

Rudy was simply a cheerleader hoping to land a cushy job. Well, I'm glad he supported Trump, but there's a method to Trump's madness that people still don't get.

I have total faith in Trump's transition, which is why I took a #2 after the election and not going to worry myself over who Trump picked or is considering to pick.

That was my thinking too. I would not be surprised if he has a health issue. He seems all of his 72 years.

I suspect he will use him in a valuable ‘advisor position’......under the radar. I think the two are long-time friends.
