Former U.S. House Speaker John Boehner sees President-elect Donald Trump as a modern-day Teddy Roosevelt, a populist who wants to do big things.
The Ohio Republican told WCPO.com in Cincinnati that Trump is similar to Roosevelt, the 26th president, because hes another guy who saw himself larger than life. He said Trump doesnt want to just trim around the edges as president.
If you look at what Teddy Roosevelt did, he came in to do big things, Boehner said. I think Donald Trump wants to do big things.

‘Weeps’ didn’t want to do anything but Democrat bidding.
SADLY, Boehner HAD the chance to do HUGE things, and he FOLDED to the DEMONCRATS!!
We don’t need your teary’eyed comments nimrod
> Weeps didnt want to do anything
Not even trim around the edges. A total disgrace.
Sadly, he was replaced by Ryan.
Speaking of tearyeyed, did you hear McConnell gushing over Biden? McConnell has got to go.
Exactly how was he going to do HUGE things with Obama as President?
HOW ABOUT DOING SOMETHING?????
“Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.”
Speak loudly and beat the hell out of things that need it with an even bigger stick, and you will MAGA!
He is, in this case, 100% CORRECT, as I pointed out earlier elsewhere on FR.
The modern president most similar to Trump in energy, intellect, brashness and “disruption” is none other than the old Bull Moose himself, TR ...
FreeRepublic is just becoming a bitter place. Boehner, who is retiring and going away, says some good things about DJT, and the peanut gallery piles on. The “Get off my Lawn!!” crowd. (Go ahead, pile on me as well. I’m sure it will make you feel better about yourself).
Some have no real life and riding a Free Republic band wagon is about as good as it ever gets for them
Teddy EXPANDED the role of government. Trump wants to curtail it. Huge difference.
Very well said. What Boehner said is true, and partly echoes an observation I made about Donald Trump last year. Trump is the third revolutionary candidate in American history. Like Andrew Jackson and Teddy Roosevelt before, our century's vulgarian brawler has been swept into office to drain the swamp and correct a host of wrongs that the majority of states can no longer tolerate. Other politicians might have wanted to do it, but Trump is the only one who can do it. With financial independence, keen instincts and the courage to fight, Trump is made for this time. Donald Trump was America's last chance at the ballot box; had he failed, only the cartridge box would have remained.
Boner man has an intuitive grasp of the obvious.
I agree. So many are insufferable. Trump is god like and everyone else is dirt.
Real simple.Shut down the gubmint over aca. That would have been HUGE.
And what? The Republicans would win huge landslides in 2014 and 2016? Guess what Ace....that’s exactly what happened
