It was reported around 70 to 100 people attended the “rave”, not exactly a large “rave” crowd by any standard

I guess the pics are of the first and second floor, by what I have read, the 2nd floor was built illegally, without permits or building plans. The city did flag it and the owner was suppose to address it. I guess he didn’t do anything since his last fire inspection.

It is sad because a fire alarm and a sprinkler system, I know, they are not cheap by any standard, would have saved people. Plus building to code and installing proper stairways and exits would have saved people as well.

Its sad to see that people lost there lives over someone’s pure negligence. It is like the owner did not even bother to even try to comply with codes.

Having recently paid for building a house in CA, I can tell you that 99% of the lives saved in fires are the result of smoke alarms -- a relatively inexpensive system.

The requirement for sprinklers is driven by insurance companies. Sprinklers will save enough of the structure so that it can be repaired instead of replaced. This limits insurance company payouts and is greatly beneficial to them. Frequently, the owner of a building is better off with a total loss and a rebuild rather than a repair.

“The city did flag it and the owner was suppose to address it.”

My guess is that unless the owner died in the fire, he’s going to jail. Maybe some city inspector types, too.
