On Thursday night (local time, as U.S. stations in Antarctica adhere to New Zealand time), the National Science Foundation agreed to provide medical evacuation from the South Pole for 86-year-old Buzz Aldrin, a former astronaut who in 1969 became one of the first people to walk on the moon.
The medical evacuation flight will be provided by the National Science Foundation, according to a news release on the government agencys website. The statement did not offer a reason for the evacuation, only referring to Aldrin as ailing.

Damn John Kerry
Alien conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this.
Prayers for Buzz.
Buzz sure ends up in some unique places. Hope he’ll be well.
He’s notorious for taking exotic trips on other people’s dime.
What idiot would allow an 86 year old man to go to Antarctica?
Was he with kerry
He just wanted to get a closeup look at what he saw from 250,000 miles away. Geez, give the guy a break! When that rocket lit under his but in 1969, he had no way of knowing he would ever set foot on Terra-fir ma again. I’m sure you would turn it down for an all expense paid Cruise to the Bahamas?
I’ll cut him or anybody else a big break that was willing to sit on an uncontrolled explosion to go up into the big black.
Er, space of a different color or whatever the term is.....
Buzz Aldrin lives at the South Pole? Is he the anti-santa?
Buzz Aldrin has a facebook page and has frequent posts.
They marooned him in Antarctica. Because he’s been to the moon.
And now he knows ... too much.
Prayers for Buzz. God bless.
What kind of parents would name their child Buzz? Is is it short for Buzzby?
South Pole? Wow! The Commander really has a thing for “getting away from it all”.
I never thought of the Antarctic as the Bahamas, but you may have a point.
Doctor: So, Buzz, were you filming another “moon landing”?
(Pow!)
Doctor (rubbing his nose): Okay, nurse. I think he’s fine now.
I would suggest he liked to fly low and fast. He buzzed the tower a lot
who would permit an 89 year old man to travel to Antarctica?
lol
