Romney, potential U.S. secretary of state, hails Trump after dinner

Noting the appointments Trump has made to fill key cabinet positions for his administration and his desire for greater unity among Americans, Romney said that "all of those things combined give me increasing hope that President-elect Trump is the very man who can lead us" to a better future.

Romney made his remarks after a lengthy meal with Trump and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus at a French restaurant at a Trump hotel in Manhattan. They dined on garlic soup with frog legs, scallops, steak and lamb chop.

Since Trump began to seriously consider Romney as a potential secretary of state, some on Trump's team have voiced doubts about bringing in a former critic and rallied around their preferred candidate, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a long-time Trump friend and loyalist.

We just chewed through the a$$es of the GOPe to get Trump in there.

ANY inclusion of Romney will be a sign that it’s going to just be 4 more years of business-as-usual. Not what I want to see right out of the chute.

I disagree. Rewarding people who support you is exactly what a politician would do. Choosing the best person for the job despite their lack of affiliation with you is what politicians never do. Whether Romney is or is not the best person for the job, I do not know, but I trust Trump’s instinct about people. It has made him a billionaire.

It’s the same thing Obama did with Hillary. Like I said, not my favorite pick but would make the 2020 re-election campaign a lot easier. Trump is going to have to get stuff through a narrow senate. It will be a lot easier if he can pacify the GOPe wing in the senate.

Mnuchin: former Soros employee, Goldman-Sachs, Hollywood.

Romney, Petraeus, Chao.

Sure will be a change from the Goldman-Sachs/CFR crowd that has run past administrations!

While the other guests ate frog legs, steak, and lamb chops, Mr. Romney ate a very generous portion of crow. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

BTW-Trump isn’t in office yet and he’s already has kept Ford and Carrier from moving to Mexico. Obamacare is first up and hints of repealing Obama’s EO and treaties are in the wind. He won an election against all odds with everyone (including many on this site) against him.

Trump seems to know what he’s doing and I’d cut him some slack.

Romney doesn't look happy.

Then, again, if it's a French restaurant, maybe Trump just told him what he just ate.

We get upset over the way Romney went after Trump. But, I think what a lot of us don't get, is for high-end business people like Trump and Romney, none of this stuff is personal. It's "Art of Deal" thinking, two businessmen can go at it, call each other every name in the book, sue, countersue and try their best to destroy each other and then a week later go off to the golf course and become partners in some new business venture because it's in their best interests. That's why I laugh every time I hear someone talk about Trump being "thin skinned", they don't get it, to get where Trump has gotten in business you can't be thin skinned, it's all an act. Trump doesn't care, he's just playing the audience

Romney tried everything in his power to destroy Trump because Trump was engaging in a hostile takeover of his "company" (in this case the Republican Party establishment). Romney failed. Romney knows he failed. Trump knows Romney failed. That's enough, no need to hold a grudge from either party, just cut the best deal you can like nothing ever happened.

Romney has spoken well of Trump before -- like in 2012 when he got Trump's endorsement for his doomed presidential campaign.

Romney thanks Trump for endorsement.

Romney is a miserable, lying sleazebag who will say anything at all that serves his interests at the time.

As the above video show, he doesn't have an ounce of integrity.

Some believe that a deal was cut by RNC Pubis for Trump to take on Romney in order to get RNC backing for Trump.

Romney isn’t even in office. His inability to beat Obama in 2012 is proof that he is a paper tiger.
The only thing they share in common is that they don’t drink.

Agreed. And what these FR critics of the man are forgetting? Trump spared us eight more years of Clinton Psychotics in the White Dump.

So yeah, let's cut him some slack.

If it does happen, imagine Romney praising Trump and defending him for 4 years? He will be a yes man for 4 years. The best revenge ever.

By the way, Romney does have business experience and know how to put great deals together. Trump is looking at who can manage and get things done. As much as I don’t like Romney for what he did to Trump, I will accept what Trump does knowing he believe the people he picks will advance his vision for the country.

Plus Trump can always say “You are fire”
