I'm not sure if it's the right move or not

I'm certain it's the absolute wrong move given Mitt's liberal bent along with the fact that he did everything he could do to elect the most criminal presidential candidate in more than 100 years.

Trump is a fool if he allows this person anywhere near the the power poles of his administration.

The "neo-cons" have no place in the Republican Party anymore. Many of these big-government, open-borders globalists supported Hillary Clinton, and Trump won without them anyway.

The perpetual warfare all over the globe has bankrupted this country. Giving the @ssholes who orchestrated this whole disaster a place at the table defeats the purpose of electing Trump in the first place.

Reagan left them in as well. If we can make additional inroads with blacks and blue-collar democrats between now and then, the neo-cons will not be needed at all. I hope we get there.

He will be a yes man for 4 years. The best revenge ever.

Alternatively, he could spend the next four years undermining him by operating a "shadow government" overseas through a private e-mail server.

Where have we heard this story before?

I think Hillary demanded something for her own résumé. It was all about her, as it always is.

Romney brings nothing. If it’s all about him, who cares? He can go back to selling used cars.

If it’s appeasing the GOPe, then I expect we’re going to see four years of a whole lot of nothing. That will not help 2020 at all, and frankly, who would care at that point, anyway.

The GOPe does not need pacifying, it needs irradication. You can bet that they are already lining up to “cross the aisle” and make sure that nothing can come of this historic victory for American common sense.

Many of the "neo-conservatives" were still Democrats back then.

Trump just proved that the neo-cons aren't needed now.

He IS the boss, he knows what he is doing. I cannot even name a wrong move he has made in his run up to the presidency. Better to have an obvious critic close. Good for Romney to see why he himself is NOT pres. Maybe Trump can teach him. 😉

I can’t make heads or tails of this situation.

It could be Trumps biggest troll to take down Romney

or it could be a way to unite the party which has merit

additionally it could be a way to hold the reins in on little Paul Ryan to basically neuter Ryan and keep him under Trumps thumb

Ryan is a little boy that can’t do anything without Romney

I have been saying this is a Trump headfake. Romney is so wrong for this job I can’t believe he would give it to him. I hope I’m right.

I’m just not sure that Trump would waste this much of his own time if it weren’t productive in some way.

Trump has made Mittens his bitch. I'd wager that every one of the folks he has met with for any position, if they have any history that would seem to put them at odds with his agenda, are having the law read to them loud and clear.

Won't stop the concern trolls from forgetting what bullet we dodged and close their eyes to the winning happening even before he takes the oath, from peeing their pants over their "concerns"...

To all the folks who fit the description, do something useful:

A month ago this Republic was hanging by a thread. Mitt Romney and other NO TRUMPers were fighting to the bitter end to deliver the US to the globalist democrat party with Hillary Clinton as president. Donald Trump won the election in spite of the disloyalty of those in his own party who joined Romney in his efforts to defeat him. Trump and Clinton were the two nominees of their party and the only two viable options for voters to choose as president of the Republic of the United States. Is there no other person in the US who is capable of doing as good or better a job as Secy of State than Romney, and who is a loyal America First person? We have good reason to be concerned about political appointments that overlook the very reason that Americans voted for change in govt. Nobody is above scrutiny from the voters. I have and am a Trump supporter. My concerns are valid and for those who are unconcerned about appointments to positions of power in this govt, ready to blindly trust their future to expedient choices that reward those who have shown their disregard for the voters of their own party, there is nothing more to say.

Whomever Trump picks, the question should be will that person be tough and strong enough clean out the Clinton sycophants in the State Department.

Romney doesn’t have the guts to do it, It will take someone with a Gingrich type personality.

>>>The reason - IMO: to consolidate the neo-cons and the GOPe into the voting block in 2020.

That's my guess as well. Trump is playing the long game here...and not the short game that so many here at FR want him to play. Romney is a smart choice. I don't really like it...but it's a logical choice. Trump is a coalition builder...he knows how to put a team together who will do his bidding. He is playing for 2020 and beyond...and there won't even be a 2018 GOP congress if the GOP doesn't unify. Let the dems distruct.

While important...the SoS isn't some rogue agent who implements their agenda. If anything it should be harder for Romney to be SoS than for Trump to have him as SoS...because Romney will have to do the bidding of Trump internationally.

He has the disposition to be SoS. He's a better choice than some of the others who have been mentioned...since I think they are best suited for other positions. If we at FR were to get EVERYTHING we want in Trump...I dare say we would end up with nothing at the end.
