Why Trump is courting Romney for the State Department
American Thinker ^ | 11/29/2016 | Thomas Lifson

All the brouhaha over the alleged rifts within the Trump transition over Mitt Romney misses the point. I think it is theatre, a distraction by the same man who was able to direct media attention where he wanted it all throughout the campaign. Donald Trump has a plan that eludes his critics, who can’t help thinking about politics the way it has always been played, and still do not grasp his thinking nor the range of new tools he brings to the presidency. The Department of State is badly broken and desperately needs to be fixed. State requires fundamental restructuring as well

That right there is why people tell you what you want to hear and do what THEY want to do.

Romney has competent proven skills in business and government... However he’s also someone who I would be very low to trust if I were Trump. From everything f I have seen and read about Trump he values loyalty above most everything else and I personally think trust in Romney to remain loyal is a big gamble.

That being said, Trump has not gotten where he is without taking calculated risks...

I don’t like or trust Romney, his behavior through this cycle has been inexcusable... However at the end of the day it’s not my neck on the chopping block if Romney were to betray Trump should Trump offer him the job.

II do think the optics politically are tough should Trump offer him the Job.. How can one drain the swamp by rewarding a globalist/establishment elite, with a job?

I'm surprised at the author. He's not been a Romney/RINO fan in the past. He's described Romney's attacks on Trump (calling him a racist & sexist) as a case of "Stockholm Syndrome" - in that after being tormented by the leftists during his 2012 campaign (for being a racist & sexist) he has adopted the views and sympathies of his tormentors.

I would 1st have the author not look at Romney's practices & performance in the business world but in the political world. Not where his jury was a business media and stockholders, but where his jury is an overwhelmingly liberal media and a nearly evenly split public.

Then I would ask him, what in Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts makes him think Romney could clean up a political swamp, like the Dep't of State when he did nothing to clean up Massachusetts?

Romney may have been a corporate tiger but he's definitely been a political pussy!

The thought process is solid but Mitt would be much better used at the VA. Rudy can do SoS just fine. Mitt can tear down the VA just like a Bain Capital restricting. He can have a lasting impact to the veterans of this country that way.

I have no doubt our foreign policy is going to take a big turm away from Obama under Trump. If Mittens doesn’t agree then I’m sure Trump won’t pick him.

My theory is this ...

GOPe: “We’ll play along with you, Mr. Trump, but only if you give some of us some positions in your cabinet. Otherwise, we will make your term a living hell.”

the piece presents a wary inkterestink perspective on applying romney's skill set to revamp State.

my first take was he would be a better fit at reorganizing the VA.

but I can see a tremendous amount of change needed in state dept starting with where is the $6bb that disappeared under hildabeast regime.

a second priority might be to turn off the tap on the "millenium challenge corp" slush fund. literally billions of US dollars are floated around the ME & africa with no budget line item appropriated by congress. BILLIONS.

next would be to move out the muslim brotherhood staff from state and all other depts of gummit.

yuge job.

maybe it is a fit for romney's wheel house???

If you want a polished CEO-type to reorg government agencies, there are plenty out there who do not come with Romney’s baggage.

You don’t appease the enemy, you annihilate them.

Or you take one of their top generals and turn him to your cause.

Trump knows what he is doing regarding interpersonal and organizational relationships. If he picks Romney, he will do so knowing exactly what the risks and rewards are.

The way I look at it, just like the recent article saying Petraeus would infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights because of past activities, it's all baloney that the concern trolls eat up to try to handcuff Trump.

If we insist that all his choices are 100% pure across the board conservatives, then he's gonna have a ton of empty slots. They will either do their boss' bidding or they will be yanked.

T all the concern trolls who haven't already, I suggest they do something useful:

Seems to me that Rudy is perfectly capable and suited to accomplish all the missions Mr. Lifson has assigned to Willard Romney. After all, America’s Mayor managed to clean-up and clean-out several yuge departments in one of our nation’s largest cities, while reducing crime and helping to handle our worst and most horrific attack on September 11, 2001.

The advantage is you bring Romney into your circle so he has to defend you, instead of leaving him on the outside where he can go on TV and criticize you at will.

The only question is how long does that last before Romney quits and starts slinging insider dirt on you?

When and where? I see no record of Ivanka trashing Romney except months ago for not going to the convention.

The following are excerpts from Donald Trump's Book Crippled America:

"One reason that I have been successful in business is that I hire the best people. I pay them well, and I keep them working for me. There are times when I meet someone working on the other side of the deal. Maybe they don't beat me, but they give me a tough time. I respect that. In fact, I respect that so much that sometimes I hire them away from the company they were negotiating for."

Hiring an Alpha Snake to clear out the snake pit that is the State Department might be what's going on here, who knows.

And there's this: "So here's the way I work. I find the people who are the best in the world at what needs to be done, then I hire them to do it, and then I let them do it...but I always watch over them.
