The ‘fake news’ that Trump had somehow moderated or changed his “global warming” views was not supported by the full transcript of the meeting.
Heartland Institute President Joe Bast had this to say about the full transcript of Trump’s meeting: “This is reassuring. The Left wants to drive wedges between Trump and his base by spinning anything he says as “retreating from campaign promises.” But expressing nuance and avoiding confrontation with determined foes who buy ink by the barrel is not retreating.”

“I’m keeping an open mind” is a perfect response to about 99% of their nonsense. No downside and no committment to anything. Trump is learning quickly to do political speech to the media which of course has zero bearing on future actions or decisions.
And it is a perfectly scientific response. Joe Bastardi is a leading AGW skeptic, but he is willing to reconsider if evidence warrants. The closed-minded ones are those who say AGW is settled science and then browbeat anyone who dares to suggest otherwise.

Those of us who get our news off the internet assumed a Trump win. Those soaked in MSM spin knew Hillary would win in a landslide.

Very true. I mean, he’s the President-elect of the United States, and across the table are people who publish a newspaper...who has the power here? It’s not like anything he says is going to change their minds about climate-stuff, all they can do is write things that try to embarrass or draw him off his preferred message defending it. So, he plays it smart with an answer that is politically and scientifically correct.
I’ve seen few people better at doing this than Kellyanne Conway and I suspect her fine hand is behind some of these recent positions.
Of all people, the President is the one who is most able to later simply say “new information has been brought to my attention, the details of which I cannot share, but which ahs caused me to reevaluate my position on this issue”.
They imagine it will become true if they repeat it enough times.
He said exactly what should be said.
