Surgeon General would be a better choice. HHS is a behemoth and needs a different skill set.

I’m not sure it is so sad. I think these agencies need to be headed by CEO’s who are enthusiastic about the mission but have lots of experience in down-sizing, rationalization, reduction-in-force, and leaning up organizations. Carson and Ebell don’t have that kind of background. They are very valuable, and can contribute their expertise in many ways, but to run a big organization that needs weeding out, hire someone with those skills. JMHO, coming from an HR background.

Why in the heck did he think he could be president then if he couldn’t run a dept. Probably better suited on the outside, at least he is honest

How soon we forget how so many were clamoring for him to run for President. He tried and had the integrity to realize he didn't have what it takes and withdrew and supported someone he knew could handle it.

Would that all seeking such an awesome responsibility be as circumspect...

Knowing he is a ‘get it done’ kind of guy,

Can you imagine what it would be like to work for an organization where likely after 430pm no one will answer the phone and mostly painting one’s nails is done?

Good. I like the way he thinks but he is not an administrator/manager. I’d rather see him doing commentary and explaining and advocating conservative philosophy.

I remember Trump supported that. Can you imagine if it’s really true?

Perhaps Dr. Carson could help close the Department. Thank you for reminding me.

Eliminate the Surgeon General position.

I agree. Superfluous position used by LIBTARDS to advance any anti firearm agenda and cloak it in the terms of so called societal or medical research.

Eliminate the Surgeon General position.

Public health is one absolutely essential function of government. The senior public health official is the Surgeon General. Criticize who holds the position all you want for policies he puts in place. But it is a vital position.

Sounds like a dull job for a bright guy. I don't blame him.

He needs to talk to black people about Trump. Especially the kids. I mean yoots.

Not at all sad if it’s true that he can better serve outside the administration. I am glad that he was offered a spot. He was loyal to Trump and one of the few who kept his promise in the primaries saying he would support the nominee.

I hope Dr. Carson goes on to do fantastic things. I don’t think we’ve heard the last of him.

THIS.

I’m a little confused. The guy ran for President. He wanted to BE the administration and oversee all departments. He graciously endorsed Trump, but now doesn’t want to work in an administraction? Then why in the heck did he run for the biggest administration job of them all? If elected, was he going to refuse to show up on Inauguration Day and say he feels he can do more on the oufsidems? Good grief.

Unfortunate. He’s a good man, and capable of the job.

What a guy: it is not about him, it is about what is best for this nation.
People working behind the scenes can get A LOT done.

His super power is that he is an utterly straight shooter, and a good man.

These are hard to find in Washington.

I suspect this is where Newt may be plugged in, and/or it may be a department which is destined for dismantle.

I just heard on the Fox radio news feed that Newt said he has no interest in returning to government in any capacity. I like Ben Carson, but never believed him qualified for bureaucratic administration, though I believed he would appointed to a position. However, I am disappointed to hear that Newt won't have a position in the new administration. These are both a couple of big surprises to me.

I think it was that whole belt buckle thing. Trump never bought into it.
