Trump Upset Promises Massive Change in Government
Government Exec ^ | November 9, 2016 | Eric Katz

Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton on Tuesday, sending the Republican businessman to the White House as the first president-elect with no prior experience in government or the military.

Trump’s unexpected victory sent shockwaves throughout the country and the world, and will likely do the same for federal agencies. Trump has promised to institute a government wide hiring freeze on his first day in office and to change civil service laws to ease the firing of disloyal workers. Last month, just 65 percent of federal employees said they were committed to staying in their jobs if Trump were elected.

35% out and not replaced is a better start.

As posted yesterday, Thomas Jefferson, that great Author of our Declaration of Independence and President of the United States provided us with an indisputable reason for rejecting a Hillary presidency, because, by the Year 2016, America had almost reached the point he described here:
"I am not among those who fear the people. They...are our dependence for continued freedom. And to preserve their independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds...our people...must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they (the British) now do, on oatmeal and potatoes; have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account; but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers.... This example reads to us the salutary lesson that private fortunes are destroyed by public, as well as by private extravagance. And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from the principle in one instance, becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering. Then begins, indeed, the 'bellum omnium in omnia,' which some philosophers...have mistaken for the natural, instead of the abusive, state of man. And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." - Thomas Jefferson
It is up to "the People" now to hold those they have elected to the principles and ideas of liberty outlined in the speeches and writings of the Founders, including the 85 Essays of The Federalist, which were the Framers' own explanations of the Constitution. We may never get the opportunity again.

Ridding the government of the bureaucratic staffs who are described in the underlined portion above is critical, for as "civil servants with pensions to protect," they have, indeed, "hired themselves to rivet chains on the necks of" all of us and will not give up the "progressive" agenda which put them in such positions of power over "the People."

I believe the US government, if properly “right-sized,” should be no more than 15% of its current number.

if 35 percent of federal govt workers retire or quit,
that will be an excellent first step to
right-sizing the federal bureaucrappy!

yippee!

The upset occurred down ballot as well. A few more legislatures went republican.

If Dems lose ONE more state legislature, GOP could push Constitutional Amendments unopposed!

I confess to some surprise at the surprise of the leftists.

I thought from early on that he had a better than even chance of winning.

Is it that they placed their faith in their ability to commit election fraud?

Do what democrats do. When Andrew Cuomo became governor of NY he demanded a signed resignation letter from every appointee and executive manager by a certain date. Don’t submit the letter -your fired automatically.

February 3rd, 2017 due date, two weeks to the day.

That would get everyone’s attention right quick!

“Trump should start with the VA personnel whom schedule the appointments.”

He should start with all the despicable scoundrels at the VA. Pack of air thieves.

Now, apparently, they have been “mandated” to deny all effective pain medication to veterans.

“Now, apparently, they have been “mandated” to deny all effective pain medication to veterans.”

Confused at the statement. I just had surgery at the Loma Linda Jerry Pettis VA facility. All efforts for my comfort were apparent throughout the procedure, and appropriate pain relief was properly prescribed.

Aside: I’ve noticed the VA generally overall has been cited as deficient when actually a handful of Facilities across the nation seem to be administered by leadership playing the system for increased bonuses for themselves at the expense of my fellow veterans. This can be fixed easily with some administrative adjustments inclusive of elimination of said bonuses, and other manipulations by an Administration that actually wants to do something about the problem.

I’m NOT interested in discussion of eliminating the VA in favor of exposing taxpayer funding to even easier manipulation for personal profit by scurrilous self centered politicians when we can make the adjustments to the current VA system that would help our veterans, and tighten up control of the system, thus cutting costs of operations.

I have been treated well at the VA. In the last couple of years they become more accommodating.

They could not find employment at more than 25 percent of their wage and benefits. They won’t leave.

Great post! Yes, it was we who sent {{{shockwaves}}} through the world. Trump was our vehicle to achieve this goal. Brexit...the British folks sent shockwaves through the world.

It's called freedom, uprising. A civil, civil war.

Yes. I was treated very well by the VA fourteen years ago when I had other surgical procedures.

I’m fortunate to have locally a very efficient VA facility. I do understand not all such facilities are as excellent, and do not provide for our veterans as well as that facility.

Prayers the VA will get the attention necessary to ensure all our veterans receive the promise they were made, and are due.

“Trump’s unexpected victory sent shockwaves throughout the country and the world,”

We shook up the world!

If I may, a slight revision and apologies to Mr. Emerson.

Concord Hymn II.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their Trump flag to November’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled Tea Party stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.

The Clintons long since in silence slept;
Alike the Obama silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.

On this green bank, by this soft stream,
We set to-day a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
When, like our sires, our sons are gone.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare,
To vote, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee.
