"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

You were saying?

The question it answers is the one where you try to claim the U. S. Constitution guarantees you the right to care any length knife you desire to.

It doesn’t.

Municipalities are free to implement laws along these lines if they deem the need.

This is not a second amendment issue.

Knives are not mentioned in the Second Amendment.

Neither are broken beer bottles, glass shards, and brass knuckles.

Arms..., the old euphemism for guns.

Good grief!

Nut job much?

The Second Amendment says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Knives are arms, and have been arms longer than there has been writing.

Knives are clearly protected by the Second Amendment.

Knives of any length, including swords, should be legal to be carried anywhere anyone can carry firearms, at the minimum.

That covers the exceptions in the Heller decision, such as “sensitive” areas.

Honestly you folks, in our urban cities you want gangs to be able to carry machetes and swords? That should make for some very interesting evenings for those who wish to play the knock out slice out game against Whites?

Arms..., the old euphemism for guns.

No, not a euphemism for anything. A reference to weapons in general. Guns (i.e. crew served), rifles, shotguns, pistols, swords, knives, bayonets, brass knuckles, saps, clubs, spears, pikes, hammers, halberds, maces, longbows, crossbows, any other kind of bows, trebuchets, ballistas, onagers, ...

yes, even improvised weapons like broken beer bottles and molotov cocktails.

It even covers weapons that don't exist yet but will some time in the future.

You are mistaken. Swords were specifically mentioned in the debates about the Second Amendment.

The Supreme Court just ruled that even electric stun guns are arms under the Second Amendment, in the Caetano case.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caetano_v._Massachusetts

That was, to quote from Heller, because the Second Amendment extends to all bearable arms:

Court began its opinion by stating that “the Second Amendment extends, prima facie, to all instruments that constitute bearable arms, even those that were not in existence at the time of the founding”

Here is the definitive academic paper on the subject of knives:

I want honest people, even in our "urban cities" (ESPECIALLY in our "urban cities") to be able to carry whatever arms they see fit, for whatever honest purpose they see fit, without having to worry about being hassled by the gang in blue.

Assholes who try to play the "knock-out game" should find themselves on the wrong end of the "Glock-out game" ... but our "urban cities" and too many States interfere with that. It's almost like the government wants a safe working environment for thugs.

Most urban areas in the country, they can carry pistols, now, if they are eligible for concealed carry permits. That is about 75% of the population (only eight states do not have shall issue laws) but is likely a lot less for gang members.

So, what are you worried about again?

I appreciate the principle you are trying to defend, but folks you have to realize there is a gang problem and also a problem with crazies on the street.

This law against long blade knives is a good one.

If you get a crazy or gang member on the street with a foot long bladed knife, you know they are up to no good. What can you do? If you get your way, nothing.

In real world terms what his means is that a crazy person can get on a subway in a captive group, and kill five or ten people before being subdued.

I’m sorry but I’m not buying in on this one.

This is the kind of claim that does our side no good. People take a good look at the argument to let folks carry any knife blade they want, and tune out those who seek to defend rights.

You do more harm with this argument than you do good.

I’m not buying what you’re selling, and if you wish to have folks back you for concealed carry and gun rights, I’d suggest you not back things that just make you look loony.

You don’t have to tell me, you and another person I’m talking to think a full blown sword should be acceptable.

I’m not buying it, and I defend just about any gun right there is.

Thanks again. I’m not buying in that stun guns are weapons.

I’m not buying in that large knives and swords are necessary.

By arguing that they are, you are playing right into the hands of those who want to call gun advocates, ‘Crazies’.

A sword? Good grief. Choose your battles man.

Gee ... I would never have known that if you hadn't told me. How silly of me.

Bullcrap! I must visit Baltimordor and Washington, DC entirely too often. These are the places I am most in need of carrying a defensive weapon ... and the places I am forbidden to do so.

I'm not buying what you're selling about the goodness or necessity of knife control laws. You're offering the same bogus arguments that Sarah Brady and Pete Shields offered 30 years ago against concealed carry (of handguns) laws. It was bogus then; it's bogus now.

Facts are facts.

I do not know why you are so concerned about knives. Wouldn’t you rather your opponent had a knife instead of a gun?

Cry me a river. Some of you folks are too damn dumb to get out of your own way.

Go right ahead and start your open carry sword movement.

We’ll see how that goes for you. Please, for God sake, don’t mention guns in the same evening.

Thanks.

Generally there is a process to obtain a gun.

Any crazy can go pick up a knife in ten minutes.

We’ll not get anywhere here.

I agree with your interpretation of weapons, but I can’t agree to advocacy to carry any length knife someone wants to carry.

With a law on the books, a Police officer can stop a gang member or crazy, and get them off the streets.

Without one, even when an officer knows trouble is soon to follow, he won’t be able to do a darned thing.

That’s not an improvement.

I appreciate your patience.

Did you know one can make Nunchucks WITH NO METAL?

I often print 3D items on my 3D printers. For ideas, I look at 3D hobby sites for downloadable builds. I found several examples of "brass" knuckles made out of plastic. One was real clever, made up of several components that snap together to form the "brass" knuckle weapon that you wear on your hand. The separated components look innocent. I guess I'll go look for plastic nunchucks now.
