On October 12, the New York State’s ACLU affiliate, the NYCLU, joined the NRA, the NAACP, the New York Times editorial board, the Legal Aid society, the office of Court Administration, and the Village Voice in support of Knife law reform.

This unusual set of allies was brought together by the heavy handed abuse of the current knife law by New York City prosecutors, especially District Attorney Cyrus Vance.

As many as 80% of the arrests for possession of common pocket knives were of Hispanics and blacks.  Common pocket knives have been characterized as “gravity knives” by a bizarre interpretation of the law. That interpretation is almost exclusively in New York City.

A lawsuit against District Attorney Vance by Knife Rights is in progress, but may take years to bring relief.  We are not talking a small number of abuses.  The Village Voice estimates 60,000 arrests over a 10 year period.  That was two years ago.

The lawsuit may be moot.  Knife Rights also pushed a legislative reform that would prevent most abuses of the law.  It was heavily lobbied against by Cyrus Vance. This year it passed both houses of the New York legislature with overwhelming margins:

Knives are arms protected by the Second Amendment. Laws like these in NYC are an insult to the Constitution.

A ‘Leatherman’ is a tool. I might say the same about our lawmakers...

The 2 on the bottom left are German paratrooper knives. One WW2, one postwar.

I have several like those pictured. We need a background check to buy a knife? I can’t bring these to NYC? Do they feel safer without these?

Keep and bear ARMS-——broadswords, pocket knives, hammers, baseball bats————————————— Not keep and bear guns only.

People have been arrested in NYC for possession of all of the above as “gravity” knives.

About 70,000 arrests in the last 12 years.

The District Attorney, Cyrus Vance, has accumulated a slush fund of $900,000 dollars from retail outlets that he has extorted funds from, on threats to shut them down because they sold ordinary pocket knives. He says the money is for knife safety projects, but only 100,000 has been spent in the last 10 years.

Yeah, but our founding fathers had no idea how far knife technology would expand. the second amendment was written for 17th century blade technology. Todays knives are way more lethal

I understand there are places where you can not carry a knife with a blade over 4 inches. What would they do if I was carrying a machete?

A knife is a functional weapon, especially if you have trained how to use one. So of course the demcscum want to make it illegal to own let along carry one.

I have a U.S.M4 Bayonet ~ which I always carry concealed in NYC. I’d rather be judged by twelve, than pall-bared by six.

If you were observed by a police officer, they would likely arrest you. NYC does not allow knives to be carried over 4 inches in blade length.

I believe Gray was killed not because he was black but because he had a knife.

About time the liberal racist policies of targetting arms amongst blacks ended. They need to defend themselves from crime

It is funny. Did you know that laws restricting carrying weapons by the peasants is the REASON martial arts exists? Nunchucks are rice threshing tools, etc. they learned to use tools that peasants would naturally carry as very lethal weapons. Lesson learned. Did you know one can make Nunchucks WITH NO METAL?
