What does the NKA say about this? (National Knife Association)
Post #20 ~ *Did you know one can make Nunchucks WITH NO METAL?*
Yes. I have a Rosewood octagon nunchaku...
Most states have limitations on pocket knife size. At a certain point they become a concealed weapon.
I would almost guarantee you these arrests were gang related.
When they police roust gang figures in order to prevent brawls, melees where people are stabbed or knifed all the time, they run into these knives.
That being the only thing they can charge the gang members with, they do it. It gets them off the streets and prevents deaths and destruction.
You, I, most other FReepers will never get stopped and frisked for a knife.
The NRA is backing a lost cause here. If they win, guess who is at risk. The public at large.
We’re not carrying, and we’ll be sitting ducks.
If an officer can’t keep these off the street, look out!
As long as one is member of the ROP it is OK./s

The NYPD actually teaches recruits in yhe Academy how to flick open a locking pocket knife like the SwissArmy Evo series. That way they can arrest the possessor of criminal possession of a gravity knife. And if it takes them twelve tries and they open it on the 13th you will still be arrested and criminal intent is explicit in possessing the knife. It’s why I do not carry my SA German Army knife when I go into the city. Even I can snap it open on the first try.
If you are carrying a knife on your belt or on a carbarnier in NYC you will be stopped in places like Penn Station or Times Square. I carried a SA Huntsman on my key carabinier and was stopped entering the 33rd St 7th Ave subway . I had to show the two cops it wasn’t a locking blade. A lot of this isnt about safety , it’s about arrests that result in convictions, even plea bargains. That’s wny Vance is so against the new law. It will remove 40K convictions from his scorecard
So what. Let them slice each other to pieces. It’s a small price to pay for liberty.

The police don’t keep me safe, I keep me safe.
Your concern does not trump the Constitution.
Several states have already done away with these antiquated laws.
Wisconsin answered your concerns by making it illegal for a felon to carry a concealed knife.
We have not seen an uptick in knife attacks.
Then again, Wisconsin is a shall issue state.
Really?
What backwards, benighted, unenlightend, oppressive State do you live in?
Doughtone is from California. He has a tough row to hoe.
But knives in California, at the state level, are pretty much unregulated. But I believe they do not have knife preeemption, so each little burg and Marxist city can enact their own super-restrictive code to ensnare you.
Should be Doughtyone, not Doughtone, my fingers mistyped.
If someone can put me in touch with someone involved in the suit, they may find some of my information about NY knife law abuse uniquely interesting. Years ago I wrote a broadly-read guide to NY knife law, and it was abused by at least one police department. I’ll dig up the specifics if someone is actually interested in prosecuting the department.
That certainly answers the question, and I think " backwards, benighted, unenlightend, oppressive" perfectly describes California. And New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, and perhaps a few other States. The key here is to quit pretending that petty tyranny protects anyone from thugs.
I learned 50 years ago, that I couldn’t carry knives with a certain length here in Los Angeles.
These laws have been around for a long time.
The problems is, these jokers ride the subways and everyone is vulnerable to them.
You still can’t care a knife with a blade over a certain length.
Please point to me where the U. S. Constitution says you can care any length blade knife no matter where you are.
You folks have a screw loose.
We’re talking about knives with five or more inches.
There’s no Constitutional guarantee you can carry those.
Get a grip.
