The young woman arrived home to find a footprint still visible on her front door.
Her South Shore apartment had been broken into, and the small safe she kept under her bed was missing, along with the black .40-caliber Glock handgun she kept inside.
Over the next year, that Glock would fire 42 bullets, leaving shell casings scattered on walkways, porches and side streets. In the hands of a street gang, the gun was used in at least five separate shootings that left two dead and five others wounded, police say.
Officers found the weapon loaded with 21 rounds and hidden in a Nike shoebox during a routine check in 2015 at a parolee's South Side home, just blocks from where it had been stolen. An extended magazine had been added for firepower and a laser sight for accuracy.

I think we have found the problem - all gang related !
Police emphasis should be on gang control, not just gun control.
Ask Rudi Guilanni how that's done !
“Hmmm. Seems to me the draconian gun laws that prevented this lady from keeping the Glock with her and on her person at all times ensured it was at her house just waiting to be stolen.”
Yes, you beat me to it.
If she’d had the gun on her it probably wouldn’t have been stolen. But it might have been used to shoot the burglar or some other criinal, which certainly wouldn’t do.
You beat me to it... She should have been carrying the gun and it would not have been stolen.
a laser sight had been added for accuracy.
42 rounds, 5 shootings 2 dead...
Not a very good percentage...
How the hell do they know how many rounds were fired?
This is BS.
How does one tell a particular spent casing came from a specific weapon?
The Glock must be a pretty good body guard and guard gun for the house too. Does anyone have any experience training them? Can you teach them to clean and lube themselves?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
A perfect example of the Gun Burglary Loophole fovored by ‘Rats and their supporters.
Marks on the casing are left by the chamber, the firing pin, and the extractor. There were two states that required that all new guns purchased must come with two test fired spent casings that would be digitized and put into a database so that casings found at a crime scene could be compared to the data base and the culprit identified.
After a decade and millions of dollars, not a single crime was solved or assisted as a result of this database, so both states ended their programs.
New guns no longer come with fired casings.
I know a lot of gun owners, a category that I used to be in . . . until that unfortunate boating trip. A sad day, but . . .
The guns I used to own were embarrassingly lazy underachievers. While I fired 100-200 rounds a day for decades, not one of my guns killed or even injured a person. There might be a few deer or rabbits that lost out, but that’s it. Not only that, but I can’t think of a single gun owner I know whose firearms have done more than hunting and target practice, except for the rare person whose guns helped to defend the innocent when faced with a rapist or robber.
`It was a dark and stormy night in the ghetto and a Glock automatic assault machine pistol stalked the mean streets.
Slowly it turned...step by step...inch by inch...’
Your MSM
If it did then it was stock from 2015 or earlier.
That must be one special Glock. I have one and it never does anything unless it's in my hand.
Today's technology is just wonderful isn't it?
“How the hell do they know how many rounds were fired?”
Don’t worry, the lib reporter’s got this one.
Leftists, and other morons, might blame the gun.
It’s the old “don’t help a good boy go bad” logical fallacy, that cntends there is no difference in human morality, that all of us are one temptation away from grand theft or mass murder.
