Trump accepts Cruz endorsement after saying he wouldn't

Donald Trump on Friday accepted Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) endorsement, despite promising in July not to.

After Cruz was booed at the Republican National Convention for refusing to endorse Trump, the GOP presidential nominee tore into his formal rival.

Trump predicted at the time that Cruz would eventually endorse, but said that “if he gives it, I will not accept it.”

"He'll come and endorse in the next little while because he has no choice. … I don't want his endorsement. Ted, stay home, relax, enjoy yourself."

But when Cruz’s endorsement came Friday in the form of a lengthy Facebook post, Trump accepted it with open arms.

"I am greatly honored by the endorsement of Senator Cruz. We have fought the battle and he was a tough and brilliant opponent," the businessman said in a statement released by his campaign.

"I look forward to working with him for many years to come in order to make America great again."

A gracious endorsement by Cruz and a gracious acceptance by Trump.

Big deal. At the beginning of the primary season, all the GOP candidates promised that they’d support the eventual Republican candidate, whoever it was. They obviously thought that Trump didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of being the last one standing. They lied in not keeping that promise.

Thanks Sen. Cruz for doing the right thing, and thanks Mr. Trump for respectfully accepting this.

I think it means a few percent points.

In spite of the tiny cluster of sore losers at #nevertrumpbriefingroom.com,

many former Cruz supporters will be more able to support Trump now.

In my view it is a big deal.

It goes toward keeping the commie bitch out of the WH.

And this ensures that all the talk this weekend will be about the Trump campaign leading up to the first debate. The American Soviet Media still hasn’t figured out why Trump hasn’t spent fat gobs of money on advertising. THIS is why. The campaign knows how to create advertising via the media itself. Mission accomplished - positive media buzz and attention leading into the first debate with the Coughing Queen.

Obviously, saying "I don't want his endorsement" isn't the same as saying he would reject Cruz's endorsement if offered.

If nothing else, the DNC Media is predictible.

This is a good thing. The media made a big deal about Bernie endorsing Hillary, when it was obvious that a significant amount of his supporters wanted no part of it. I have always thought that the Cruz situation was just the opposite. Cruz didn’t endorse Trump, but Cruz supporters were, in the end, going to line up behind Trump. Now the loose ends have been tied off.

“despite promising in July not to”

PROMISING? Did he really vow not to accept it?

Biased media tries to make bad news out of every bit of good news for Trump.

A gracious endorsement by Cruz and a gracious acceptance by Trump.

Exactly. There's really nothing else to say.

Very impressive by both and maybe More helpful at this time and this way. It gives Trump a chance to look very presidential.
