Ted Cruz supporters were alarmed Wednesday at suggestions that he was on the verge of endorsing Donald Trump.
They worry that the Texas senator could squander his brand as a fighter — and goodwill earned among many through his stubborn refusal to back his party's nominee — if he caves with nothing to show for it.
Cruz has held out on the grounds that Trump is insufficiently conservative, and because Trump attacked his wife and father down the stretch of their heated battle for the Republican nomination.
The senator even took the extraordinary step of declining to endorse Trump during a televised, prime time speech delivered from the stage of the New York businessman's own nominating convention.

There is always the possibility that the GOP/Trump/Cruz all agreed to have Cruz delay the endorsement to get a maximum effect of it.
I can't imagine it would help Trump much at this point, any boost is a benefit. I was initially a Cruz supporter, but even if he endorses Trump now, I'll never vote for him in a primary should he run again. Cruz was a self-centered, lying cry baby to not endorse Trump at the Convention. Nothing about the reasons he's given for not endorsing Trump has changed. So why might he possibly be endorsing Trump now? To hook his wagon to a winner? Because he actually thinks the RNC will not give him support for future runs? If either of those are the reasons, he's still self-centered. It may be that he has actually reached the conclusion that we need to defeat Hillary, but I'm so cynical about his motives that I don't believe it.
At this point what difference does it make?
Seriously, what benefit is there to Trump to have Cruz’s endorsement now?

Trump never attacks unless he’s been attacked first. And he only mentioned Heidi’s affiliation with Goldman Sachs and his father’s association with the Lee Harvey Oswald after Cruz’ campaign manager sleazebag Jeff Roe coordinated with a Cruz PAC to plaster Melania’s nude photo all over the internet.
In light of what Cruz/Roe orchestrated on Melania, I would say Donald’s so-called ‘attack’ was quite mild and only suggestive.
Cruz can dish it out but he can’t take it. And he’s an example of sore losers everywhere.

2. I understand why he's upset, but I'm really disappointed in his conduct since Trump won the nomination.
3. I think he can do a great service to himself and restore his public image in my mind if he publicly, and enthusiastically, endorses Trump.
4. He doesn't owe Trump or Trump's supporters an apology.
Cruz has been great in the Senate. But he showed he was NOT presidential material.
He doesn’t even have to endorse Trump; just say something like, “I know we’ve had our differences, but for the sake of the Country I plan to vote for him and hope my followers will do the same.”
The Supreme Court alone is reason enough.
If Cruz passes he is telling us who originally supported him he won’t support us.
Trump will be gracious to him
But I hope he doesn’t expect a cabinet post or a kiss on the cheek after what he did to Melania (yes it was his “PAC” but there was no apology)

just have never seen such embarrassing, babyish, selfish behaviour before (as with Cruz, LindsayGraham, Romney, Jeb, and Kasick what’s his name in Ohio), also Mark Levin on the radio (who now says he will have to vote for Trump but still uses half his program to criticize the party’s nominee )

I think if he gets on board and we get Mr. Trump in the White House, all could be forgotten, and he could actually have a chance to be a leader in the Senate, but if he DOESN’T, the next Senator from Texas is going to be named Rick Perry.
dp0622, I, too, was a huge Cruz fan. He needs to endorse, quickly, enthusiastically and as sincerely as he can. Because, like Political Junkie Too points out so clearly, we can never get back the month of lost momentum squandered by Ted for absolutely no good reason.
How hard can it be for a Texan to stand on his word? As an Okie, it would never occur to me to renig on a pledge, even made TO a Texan.

Too little too late. The real Ted Cruz emerged during the primaries.
His political career is over and his Senate seat is long gone. He might get elected dog catcher by endorsing Trump and name recognition. Heidi will be out crying on the side of the highway again.
I would not be surprised if Cruz and Trump's team are engaged in serious discussions behind the scenes to get Cruz on board in some way. Personally, I think his best contributions would be in a key senior role in the U.S. Senate (or in a governor's office, which doesn't seem likely).
He signed a pledge that he would support the nominee of the party. He is either a man of his word or he is not?
