People can laugh all they want.

I fear we are far closer to Civil War right now than the vast majority could ever imagine.

I saw yesterday where the vetting of Syrian refugees is conducted by “state department” officials. Are you kidding me? People employed by this administration are being sent overseas to “screen” these refugees. You really think they are looking at “our” best interests, or the interest of the refugees? Sheeesh.

Yet another reason to move to Texas
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dead wrong.
Texas is Ground Zero for Arabic Muslim terrorism.
There’s reason the Holy Land Foundation moved there.
I also have first hand experience with seasoned Hamas Arab Muslim terrorists, specifically in the US for Jihad and specifically for Futuh al-Buldan / Maghazi.
Texas is only good for those bringing in Arabic Muslim terrorists and establishing retirement communities for same.
Texit
You beat me to it.
DOH! Happens to me all the time. At least it tells me I’m among great minds who think alike. ;-)
Texas was Spanish territory from the 16th century until 1821-the people who settled here were from Mexico and originally from Spain-they were my ancestors-they spoke Spanish. When Spain lost Mexico and all that area of New Spain in the 1821 Mexican revolution, the dominant language was Spanish, even with some Anglo settlers coming in.
Many people from old families speak Spanish as a second language here-we always have-all ethnicities-especially in rural/tourist areas-it is good for business.
MrT5’s family was Canadian French-his grandparents came to Washington from Quebec-MrT5 spoke Quebecois as a 2nd language, same as his family still living in Canada did.
My ancestors have been in Texas since the late 1700’s-I’m an American and a Texan of Hispanic ancestry. I have spoken Spanish as my second language since early childhood-so have my family members and most of the neighbors. I’m not offended in any way with someone speaking a second language-any language-that is not English. It is still a mark of being well educated around here to be multilingual...
“I’m pissed our leadership even participated at all.”
I’m with you. Makes you wish there was some way to refer to them without using the word “leader” in any form.
This is irrelevant unless Texas creates a border of its own.
Any “refugees” can just walk right in from the other states
The Dallas area is fine, if you know which cities to avoid.”
I would think it’s pretty much that way in even the small cities. Parts of Houston are great, like River Oaks for instance, if you can afford to live there. But then you have to go outside your walled compound, meet the real world and have the “pleasure” of traveling on the city streets! LOL
Our family went to Pottsboro two years ago during the Thanksgiving vacation. We just loved it there. Stayed at a resort - water on one side and golf course on the other. What’s not to love. But getting there on the freeway system was just awful and, in some ways, way worse than Houston.
If it was optional why would any state participate?
They got a lot more power than they use.
In the 50’s, English was predominantly spoken in Los Angeles and the demographics were majority white. Now, it’s like being in Mexico.
Why the heck is Texas even in the program? We have too many illegals as it is.
I doubt anyone thinks someone that learned Spanish as a child is well educated. there’s no connection.
I’m glad I don’t live in any border state. Using the excuse that Mexico owned the land centuries ago is ridiculous. It’s the illegals there that refuse to speak English that are the problem. And nobody is impressed on how ‘well-educated’ they are.
Americans speak English. Period.
Exactly.
All the border states are ruined.
My first criteria for escaping Mexifornia was to look at all states at least 2 states away from a border state. Those close by are quickly being ruined too.
“It is still a mark of being well educated around here to be multilingual...”
That sounds pretty racist. Unless one speaks the language of the criminal invaders, they are not well-educated.
Sounds like a liberal Mecca. And with all the illegals there, it soon will be blue.
She/he was judging people that didn’t speak another language as uneducated.
Balderdash! Liberals in the border state schools push the same drivel - that our American children have to learn the language of the invaders. I grew up in Texas, so I know this first hand.
os. an example - all the white engineers I graduated with at UTEP would be considered uneducated because we only spoke English, in His/her limited circle.
That kind of racism/judgementalism makes me glad I went to work elsewhere, LOL! just kidding, I left to escape the illegals and go to the US but this goes hand-in-glove with it.
I said speaking a second language is a mark of being well educated-as in speaking more than one language-English 1st language, Spanish, French, etc 2nd language, etc. My 1st language is English, since I was born an American-and I do speak Spanish as my 2nd language-I also read it-sorry if it bothers you-and I’m by far not the only FReeper who does speak more than one language, either-we are not racist...
No one despises mojados more than Americans of Hispanic ancestry-I know a little about that-and the fact that they most certainly can be rounded up and taken back across that border-most would not even be here if they were forbidden from getting free stuff and employers were fined or jailed for hiring anyone who can’t prove they are in this country legally, period...
