Texas threatens to 'exit' the federal refugee program over terrorist concerns
Houston Chronicle ^

Texas, which has taken in more refugees than any state in the nation over the past year, is threatening to leave the federal refugee program if the Obama administration does not meet its security demands.

The dispute comes as the Obama administration has announced a new goal of resettling 110,000 refugees in the United States in the coming year, including an unspecified increase in the number from Syria.

In a letter Wednesday to Robert Carey, director of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission said that unless Washington "unconditionally" approves the state's new plan controlling placements in Texas by September 30, the agency will "exit" the program.

Without an agreement, Texas would join Kansas and New Jersey in withdrawing state participation in the refugee program over the federal government's vetting procedures to screen out potential terrorists.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the letter was sent in response to the Office of Refugee Resettlement's "unwillingness" to approve the state's new refugee plan, which would require national security officials to ensure that refugees do not pose a security threat to Texas.

Texas is just messing with us. Lots of talk and veiled threats from the state but not much action.

I think it’s time for congressional members to come clean on how many refugees have been settled in their districts/states, and in cabinet members neighborhoods, and administration employees/staff neighborhoods. I don’t suppose they’d be knowledgeable about celebrity neighborhoods but they certainly would be about top tourist areas in the country. Not amusement parks but where the rich and famous gather for “fun times” - Aspen, Martha’s Vineyard etc. Let’s see/hear Trump make an issue of it. No better time and it needs to be exposed!

I hope President Trump will resettle those “refugees” back to their home countries.

Actually, our Governor here is pretty aggravated at lots of Obama’s policies. And he isn’t afraid to express his thoughts.I wouldn’t call it veiled threats, though, because there is only so much he has the power to do.

This whole Federal Refugee program is a United Nations program. Enough of the UN. We should not be subservient to them.

It’s time a STATE stood up to the unconstitutional and illegal acts of the feds!

STATES: Nullify, reject, and stand opposed to unconstitutional acts of the feds which by definition are acts of tyranny.

“Texas is just messing with us. Lots of talk and veiled threats from the state but not much action.”

I guess your state already spit in Obama’s eye, and stopped accepting refugees?

Much of this Texas refugee baggage is facilitated by the USCCB. This is veiled by the protection afforded to church and state privileges, in my humble opinion. Catholic Charities is the host for housing, providing aid and comfort.

It’s a fine strategy when you think about it. The Church receives $92 million per year to act as a facilitator.

A nice stipend for pushing open borders.

See Paul Ryan types. Devout, don’tcha know.

That is true, Catholic Charities runs this refugee business and makes big bucks off it. All while going us endless assaholic lectures about how it is Gods work, so we cant oppose their industry.

They got very big in this even in the Mariel Cuban boatlift days.
