Texas threatens to 'exit' the federal refugee program over terrorist concerns
Houston Chronicle ^

Texas, which has taken in more refugees than any state in the nation over the past year, is threatening to leave the federal refugee program if the Obama administration does not meet its security demands.

The dispute comes as the Obama administration has announced a new goal of resettling 110,000 refugees in the United States in the coming year, including an unspecified increase in the number from Syria.

In a letter Wednesday to Robert Carey, director of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission said that unless Washington "unconditionally" approves the state's new plan controlling placements in Texas by September 30, the agency will "exit" the program.

Without an agreement, Texas would join Kansas and New Jersey in withdrawing state participation in the refugee program over the federal government's vetting procedures to screen out potential terrorists.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the letter was sent in response to the Office of Refugee Resettlement's "unwillingness" to approve the state's new refugee plan, which would require national security officials to ensure that refugees do not pose a security threat to Texas.

Yep, he just does not have the power. And the legislature only meets about once in a blue moon.

Right, but Barry will need 1400 - 1600 to set up all the tables to help his people feel at home. There’s the table with obamaphones, a table where they’re handing out EBT cards, two tables with ipods full of obama speaches, a then there’s a whole section reserved for DNC voter registration. Oh, and the table with pressure cookers is expecting a lot of business too...

I guess your state already spit in Obama’s eye, and stopped accepting refugees?

*************

My state (for now) is deep blue so no chance of ever stopping the influx or pushing back on Obama in any way. I’ve already purchased a home in another state; just cleaning up loose ends here before the move out. I don’t just complain or make idle threats; I do something about it.

I used to run some projects in Texas and always liked the state, its people, and their sense of independence. I’m hoping Texas will take some bold steps and serve as an example for other states to follow.

I am very surprised that Texas is currently in the program.

But that goes to prove what is wrong all across America.

Full time government agency employees foist these feel-good programs on communities, of people that are generally not paying close attention.

Next thing, a community wakes up to discover there have been 100s of “refugees” living in town, from places like Somalia.

Why does America need them, or admit them?

They won’t do it, they won’t cut off the border either. Texas is lost already to illegals, and to think all these folks said “Don’t mess with Texas” while it was really “Come invade Texas, we’ll do nothing because big daddy fed says so”

I just did the same thing; I stayed in the state but moved to a SANER county.

Life Is Good! Good Luck to you & yours in your new home!

“Texas is lost already to illegals, ...”

And has been for decades. Anyone not noticing must love hearing Spanish spoken.

When looking for a new home to go Galt in after escaping Mexifornia, I started looking 2 states away from any border state. Any closer was unacceptable.

Add Dallas and San Antonio to your list of places not to move. Number of sanctuary cities is growing by leaps and bounds as well as muslims and illegals.

If only the entire nation would follow in Texas’ footsteps....

Good sense is getting very tough to find.

Spanish has always been spoken in Texas, or at least the last 500 years.

You’ve got to ask yourself what was a state like Texas doing in a program to voluntarily take in “refugees” in the first place? Doesn’t sound like ‘Don’t mess with Texas’ is still a valid slogan to me.

And now they’re upset because obama didn’t play it straight?

What am I missing?

The use of Spanish in Texas should have decreased when she became a US state. If anyone there wanted to be an American. Instead with all the illegals flowing in in the late 1900’s, it has increased after that time.

In the 50’s, English was predominantly spoken in Los Angeles and the demographics were majority white. Now, it’s like being in Mexico.

Making excuses for allowing the invasion is just liberalism.

“. I don’t just complain or make idle threats; I do something about it.”

I hear you - to many politicians (too many Americans period) are all talk and no cattle. It’s a big reason we’re in the mess we’re in today.

Thank you. The county I currently live is saner than the other adjoining or nearby counties but it too is getting worse. I’m not waiting around to watch the deterioration.

Taxes and weather are also much better where we’re going which makes moving even more attractive.

Taxes are a HUGE factor. And land. Land is amazingly affordable around here.

And since we lack a lot of the, ‘free’ social services the LibTards DEMAND, they’re not interested. :)
