For both father & mother?

Fairly progressive. Fairly European.

Why not have a first class nursery at the job site and allow the mother extra breaks?

The average number of kids in the US is 3.1.
So we are talking 18 weeks paid leave over the course of a life time.

Currently the law provides for 12 weeks of unpaid leave. California requires 6 weeks of partial paid leave.

Mighty nice of him to force employers to pay for someone to not work for 6 weeks.

The upside: It will drain a bunch of Julia votes away from the Democrats. I doubt they can recover.

The downside: Once he does it we’ll actually have to pay for this.

Social engineering using forced Federal mandates and the already hair-ball complicated tax code.

Make America More of The Same Again.

So now we need to subsidize the childcare costs for couples making up to half a mill a year?

And how many small businesses are going to be eager to hire younger women, just waiting for the paid maternity leave requirement to kick in on their payroll?

Trump trying to take women’s issues from Hillary. He is attacking on her strong points for getting votes.

.
Trump is just plain wrong on this.

We need to cut all taxes, and restore the economy to the point where women no longer need to degrade themselves by working away from home.

The most important job in the world is raising children properly.

I fully intend to vote for Mr. Trump but am under no illusion that he is anything but a Scoop Jackson-Sam Nunn-Ed Koch New York Democrat. Which, frankly, makes him the far superior choice compared to a crypto-Muslim Communist like Obama or an unindicted not-so-crypto-brain-damaged-lesbian-Marxist like Hillary.

Before everyone gets their panties in a wad and starts to hyperventilate-many of the insurance policies offered to employees of companies have included 4-6 weeks of maternity leave for a long time-I took advantage of it when I had my cub-more years ago than I want to admit-my monthly premiums covered it, so I used it-insurance premiums are paid by everyone in a risk pool-and everyone in that pool who pays premiums can use it the same way as anyone else-it isn’t “free”, and the employer did not pay-the insured person was compensated by the insurance carrier, just like with workers comp does for an injury...

I thought this is what socialists were for. This is totally anti business, anti free enterprise. What the heck is going on here?

Daycare is damn expensive. I have no clue what the answer is. Just one piece of bad luck or a poor decision and a middle class family is in the poor house. This means both parents need to work to minimize risk. This also means day care is a necessity. My answer, live like the families did in the 1950s. Buy a three flat and have multiple generations living together. That way you have built in baby sitters and emotional support when times get bad. But that is just me.

I love Trump but he is on the wrong side of this one.

Should be a private arrangement for employers and employees.

Don't know how much real change is involved here, because many large employers allow both spouses a lot of time off around the time of the birth.

I think it's wrong to force any business to pay for this.

Taken all together, Trump has earned enough chits with me that he can burn one on this issue, if it is good election strategy.

Paid! Not a deal breaker, but DJT is WRONG if he thinks this is the business of the federal government.

Now he is pandering for the women’s vote. He doesn’t need to do this.
