FBI Chief Responds to Concern Over Cyberthreats to US Election System
ABC ^ | 30 AUG 16 | By Mike Levine

Posted on 08/30/2016 2:34:43 PM PDT by DCBryan1

he FBI has responded to recent concerns about U.S. voting systems being targeted for cyberattacks as Election Day approaches, saying the agency takes the threat "very, very seriously" and is working to "equip the rest of our government with options."

FBI Director James Comey addressed the issue while speaking to government and private-industry experts attending the Symantec Government Symposium in Washington, D.C.

"We take very seriously any effort by any actor," he said, "to influence the conduct of affairs in our country, whether that's an election or something else."

His comments come one day after news surfaced about FBI warnings to the states that hackers had infiltrated one state board of election and targeted another.

Three days ago, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., sent a letter to Comey, expressing concern that "the threat of the Russian government tampering in our presidential election is more extensive than widely known and may include the intent to falsify official election results."

Hmm DNC blames ALL hacks on “the Russians”. Must be a focus group tested phrase.

It’s probably a bunch of MIT or Harvard kids being paid by DNC.

Oh, I’m so relieved to learn that Comey and friends are right on top of this pending threat to the integrity of our election process. I was really worried, but with Comey on the job, I know everything will turn out just fine, s/

Seize the election control from the states/provinces... that is what I think they have in scope.

Comey explained that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case against hackers attempting to rig the election in favor of Democrats, however it would be would be extreme carelessness if the hackers were to be caught attempting to rig the election for Republicans.

Just the opposite. After Hillary wins any fraud detected will be explained away as foreign hacking. Of course it will only be detected in small amounts so they will say that even factoring out the fraud she still wins.

Preparations to steal any Trump victory.

They would have to have polls showing a Clinton victory and then a Trump victory would be broadcast as a stolen election.

Or, if they engineer a Clinton victory with falsified data, then they can claim it matched the polls.

We truly need to return to paper ballots.

The US NEEDS to adopt the Israeli election process v not having an election in fear of e vote hacking. The thought of canceling the election is an establishment ploy since they didn’t get the Republican of their choice and now the fact that the hag is so tainted and sick that very few Americans will vote for her.

RE “...to influence the conduct of affairs in our country, whether that’s an election or ...”

Wait a minute...

Isn’t that EXACTLY what HE did by letting Hillary off the hook for criminal / felony mishandling of classified documents???

Just sayin’....

So, Homeland eyes special declaration to take charge of elections

Stalin was right: "The people who cast the votes don't decide an election, the people who count the votes do." - Joseph Stalin

We have to keep pushing for a Special Prosecutor and/or Grand Jury regarding the daily drip drip of the email/server felonies and the lawlessness of the Clinton Foundation money laundering pay-to-play quid pro quo operation.

faithhopecharity nails the whole "intent" issue that the dems keep repeating to get Hillary off the hook: all that effort is now flushed down the toilet by letting the Clintons off (and so transparently, too.... like when he said he could not prove intent....concerning felony statutes that DO NOT REQUIRE INTENT in the first place)

A summary from January of the multiple felonies and misdemeanors here: Hillary Clinton's Email and Server Scandal: Summary Review and Recommendations Most of the laws mentioned do not require intent to break said law.

From the article: "Former New York City Mayor and U.S. Attorney Rudy Giuliani said he doesn't think there is any way Hillary Clinton should be able to avoid facing an indictment for the "secretive and highly classified" government information found on the private email server she used while secretary of state." "[There are] 13 violations of federal law that she arguably committed," Giuliani told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "This is about as clear as it gets. It is a crime to negligently handle top secret material." If you read the fine print, she was in gross violation of at least 13 laws. . and many multiples of times. . What happened to "We are either a Nation of Laws, or We are Not?"

I hate to get too out there, but does this all feel like some kind of quickening by the dems? Are their internals looking lousy? The NYT editorial today? The obvious set up with the "Russian hacker's fault" meme. . Jeh Johnson, "Department of Homeland Security began considering declaring the election a "critical infrastructure," giving it the same control over security it has over Wall Street and and the electric power grid." Yeah right, just what we need.

I am reminded from a post last January from dead:

It’s really not a complex or nuanced scandal. Pretty cut and dried. At least until you get into the larger issue of why she needed a private email system, free from oversight - the office of the U.S. SoS was available for purchase through the Clinton Family Foundation. The sheer magnitude of this crime is too large for some people to process.

"1. 18 U.S. Code § 793 - Gathering, transmitting or losing defense information 18 U.S. Code § 798 - Disclosure of classified information"

"2. U.S. Code § 1924 - Unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or material"

"3. 18 U.S. Code § 2071(b) -- Concealment, removal, or mutilation generally"

"4. 18 U.S. Code § 641 - Public money, property or records"

"5. 18 U.S. Code § 1505 - Obstruction of proceedings before departments, agencies, and committees"

"6. 18 U.S. Code § 1519 -- Destruction, alteration, or falsification of records in federal investigations"

"7. 18 U.S. Code § 1031 -- Fraud against the United States 18 U.S. Code § 1343 - Fraud by wire, radio or television 18 U.S. Code § 1346 -- Definition of "scheme or artifice to defraud" 18 U.S. Code § 371 - Conspiracy to defraud the United States"

"8. 18 U.S. Code § 371 - Conspiracy to commit a federal offense With each law broken multiple times, there are indictable offenses galore.

C'mon Comey, do your job! Reopen the Investigation! No Intent Needed!

may I please add... there are some statutes which do not state an intent element but the courts will impute such a requirement anyway

where this is almost certainly NOT the case:
1. much of the espionage act type stuff, and
2. where the behavior was negligent or reckless (applicable standard will vary from statute to statute, but intent is not necesary)
3. where the behavior itself demonstrates any required intent (such as deliberate destruction of evidence, etc.)

SO, I still think, from everytbing we’ve seen, that YES there are apparently several serious AND QUITE PROSECUTABLE violations

but we may have to wait for President Trump to see any justice. It appears that Hilliary has something on Obama, probably she still has her Illegal Alien file on him....for starters....?
