American journalism is collapsing before our eyes

Anyone who wishes to see how the Left has historically used and abused the news media in this country should visit the Newseum in Washington, D.C. The entire exhibit is very high quality and very interesting, but it is clearly designed to be a resounding acclamation of American journalism’s liberal ideology.

It has never been driven by economics.

It has always been driven by the “progressive” agenda, the desire for power.

There are numerous instances where the old media has passed obtaining more money because the money did not fit their agenda.

For example, the old media refused to sell ads to the NRA for 40 years, at least.

There are rules for attracting an audience via journalism:

1. If it bleeds, it leads.
2. Man Bites Dog, not Dog Bites Man
3. Claim that all journalists are objective.
4. Always make your deadline

Those rules imply, not merely negativity, but cynicism. The first is negativity, the second is negativity toward the good and positivity toward evil, the third claims that negativity toward the good and positivity toward the evil is objective - and the last implies applying those rules in a slapdash, arbitrary manner when necessary.

Each of those rules is justifiably strictly from a commercial viewpoint. Taken together, they constitute cynicism, and therefore socialism.

. . . and then they wonder why we think there is “bias in the media.”

And yet he stands tall and strong and optimistic. This victory will truly be a victory for all of us who care enough to invest of ourselves in it. The rest of the maggots will benefit, but the actual doers will be the reason for the win.

Time for another:::

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate (even if he's "rich enough to do it on his own") as the next President.
I donate to the candidate I support and you should too, else, your "support" really doesn't have any meaning.

It's even worse if you use FR and don't donate. If you are one of those who feel it's OK to use FR daily w/o helping pay to keep the lights on, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches because, functionally, you are no different than any other who enjoys the fruits of others' work for your own benefit. Also, don't be surprised if others decide that your opinions are as worthless as your non-donations - hypocrites aren't worth listening to.

I grew up thru 60s three network tv and print

And yes it leaned left

But nothing like this

The gap between Time and Mother Jones is ever closing

And TV is nutz...

Part of it is the minutiae of the agenda

I was a college small L radical then......we thought the MSM was staid and right wing...lol

I read Crawdaddy and the aforementioned MJ and the Nation and Ramparts etc to counter that

As I progressed I moved on to the Economist and The New Republic etc in my early to mid 20s transition

The difference now is that they are so bold to come out and tell us that they are taking sides against Trump and conservatives. In the past they pretended to be unbiased.
