Tucker Carlson: the Sad State of Modern Journalism
Accuracy in Academia ^ | August 10, 2016 | Alex Nitzberg

Posted on 08/10/2016 9:02:47 AM PDT by Academiadotorg

Criticizing the state of modern journalism, Tucker Carlson told AIM that journalists' obsequious behavior, blatant bias and monolithic worldview have compromised the integrity of the nation's fourth estate.

Carlson, a member of the Fox News team and a veteran journalist who co-founded the Daily Caller, asserts that many journalists bask in the presence of "the powerful" and are "…afraid to challenge anybody in power."

"That's kind of exactly the opposite of what you want. I mean the whole reason that journalists have a special kind of place in American society is because they're entrusted with this job to kind of keep the powerful honest and to speak on behalf of the population and the second they go over to the other side and start sucking up to politicians, for example, is the second they’ve betrayed that charge."

Questioned about the media's election coverage Carlson opined, "I don't think by and large they have been covering it, they've been advocating on behalf of one candidate against another."

He explained that regardless of the election's outcome, the media's advocacy has destroyed its claim to objectivity.

Pointing out that a conflict of interest will arise if Trump wins and the largely anti-Trump media must report on his presidency, he said, " … how are they gonna cover that, the administration? Can they? Haven't they discredited themselves?"

"By the way," he continued, "if Hillary wins, same thing. They've been working for her election and now they're in charge of telling us what her administration is doing, can we trust them with that? I don't think so."

Condemning the practice of journalists who air their opinions on social media accounts, Carlson noted the corrosive effect this has on the public's trust as they can easily discover a journalist’s political leanings.

Carlson says that while he values diversity, within the modern field of journalism " … everybody has the same experience, they're all from the same world, they all have the same assumptions, they all went to the same schools."

He described journalism school as an "indoctrination center" that perpetuates the lack of diversity of thought in the media industry.

" … journalism school is just another sameness factory that pumps out people with identical opinions, and by the way, it's only accessible to a certain kind of person -- the exact kind of person we don’t need any more of in journalism -- affluent, entitled, activist.”

Carlson believes journalists should seek the truth, "even if it leads them into uncomfortable places and especially if it leads them to places they didn't expect to arrive … that's what I thought journalism was, pursuit of what's true, of accuracy, but not just accuracy, of truth."

Unlike the j-schools Tucker Carlson so understandably derides, we actually try to train young people to report, like Alex J. Nitzberg, for example

You have to salute this guy for not only seeing this tragic state of affairs but pointing it out for others to see.

Bravo, Tucker Carlson.

There is no journalism anymore.
They have become the Ministry of Propaganda.
The narrative has no relation to the truth.

As far as I’m concerned, ‘journalist’ is at the bottom of the scum sucking, dirtbag slime-sieving parasite ladder that ever oozed over the surface of this earth.

Journalism is not supposed to be unbiased. That is a fabrication of the WWII generation.

The reason that there were so many different newspapers is that each had a targeted audience. Since FDRs time the myth of the unbiased media was promoted. It was a sham then. It is a sham now.

Go back and read stories from the 1850’s or so. You will see a much more raw image of the media.

If you expect bias, you won’t be disappointed when you see it.

...’journalist’ has supplanted ‘used car salesman’ as lowest of the low. ‘Government employee/lawyer’ is certainly in the mix, though...

Didn’t we learn with the DNC email leaks who they work for?

Uh no Tuckie... they're perfectly fine challenging people in power, as long as they are conservative and refuse to support the media scum's perverted, demented, delusional world view. Interesting that he refused to state that single, solitary irrefutable fact...

Hear, hear!

The one and only thing Chairman Mao ever said worth quoting is 百花齊放,百家爭鳴 "let a hundred flowers bloom, a hundred schools of thought contend." He didn't mean it, and neither do the elitists of today, but it is what a lively republic is supposed to be: free speech, press, religion, and assembly are vehicles for letting the truth rise to the top.

Let the journalists be completely biased, let all voices be heard, and then aim to know the truth, because the truth will set you free.

There is no longer any attempt at gathering facts and real journalism. The media just repeat Clinton campaign talking points. As loud as possible.

Look at CNN. We have REAL violence against Trump supporters. One guy shot, another beaten with a crow bar. Nada on CNN about that. Instead we get clinton campaign talking points of the day about “dangerous” Trump. And of course hysterically packaged with huge headlines. The media are despicable.

seriously, if you are on the DNC e-mail list and then listen to the evening news, it’s virtually word for word. They barely bother to rewrite them.

I get very little of my news from the MSM. It’s all internet, international and easily verifiable through cross-referencing stories.

I’m embarrassed for the MSM when I see what they are reporting and compare it to what I already know.

And yeah, that includes FOX.

The media has become nothing more than a Liberal propaganda agency. That is the news, film, ‘entertainment’, print, etc... all of them!!

If you only speak one view and/or, if you only speak about the opposition (if at all) in the most derogatory and biased terms... that is, by definition, ‘propaganda’.

There is not the least objectivity in reporting the news like that or in producing film, newspapers, or anything else in such a flat and one dimensional vein... as if everyone in the audience is 9 years old..... PLEEEAAAASE!!

It has been like this for a very long time. Conservatism has, to its own detriment, continued to follow the rules while Liberals do their end run on the facts and the protocols with impunity!
