How is Trump spending his money?

Posted on 08/10/2016 6:24:02 AM PDT by MNDude

It was recently reported that Trump brought in $80 million in July and he so far has spent $0 on TV advertisement. Does anyone know how he's spending it, or is he saving it up for after Labor Day?

Post like this are great for drawing out the concern trolls! Next they will start a pool on when Trump will drop out. Maybe someone will trot out Lyn’ Ted before its over.

“I saw the same story...but it also said he had $39 million cash on hand, meaning he had spent $41 million last month. Absent ad buys, coupled with stories of lean field offices in swing states, I wondered where that money was spent.”

Ground game, salaries, travel expenses, RNC blackmail.

I suspect RNC blackmail was a big ticket item...but reportedly the ground game is not that big yet.

I don’t know but I suspect he is saving it up for a shock and awe blitz

That was the declared program that Romney ran. In the end, Romney's media money went to elites who bought expensive pockets of media and charged the campaign loads of consulting fees.

Obama's campaign was smart... they committed long term buys on network cable, which was cheaper because it reached more folks with lesser dollars. They also saturated markets and labeled Romney's image.

It appears that Trump feels that Hillary is like Bush... but he really should understand that we are dealing with a different target audience. Republicans were loath of another Bush. The target voters now are floundering about.

I will say again: he needs to drive Hillary's negatives through the roof. He isn't going to do that with new voters by having a rally and reading some points off of a sheet of paper. His last few rallies were surely flatter than the ones he had during the primaries... they lack energy and his supporters coming to rallies do not expect him to read most of his thoughts off of a piece of paper.

Get some media... spend some money Donald.

Right. Remember Jeb! He spent lots and lots of money on ads and what did it get him?

Has anyone here voted for someone in November and recalled that they made their choice on some ad they saw in August, ignoring everything else from then until Election Day?

Labor Day.

Trump needs to keep on with the rallies and good social media.

Unleash the dogs of war after Labor Day when everyone will be paying attention.

The media doesn’t like Trump - so what else is new?

But also, they are mad he’s not spending $$$ with them on ads.

My view is what they are doing is trying to get Trump to open his pocketbook early, so they get more overall ad $$$ in their wallets.

Be pro Hillary and also try and get some Trump ad $$$ - a win-win for the MSM.

In PA and OH, Trump is letting hillary define herself to the voters most easily swayed. I think it's a HUGE mistake. These aren't the people who will let facts sway their emotions, once they make up their mind. He and Pence are having a lot of rallies, but these aren't people who will go to the rallies; more likely they'll be upset if rally traffic affects their daily lives.

OF COURSE I'm 100% pro-Trump and don't think the nation will survive unless he wins in November. Just keepin' it real.

No other possibilities may be entertained, except by traitors.

This is sort of like an old Cruz perspective. Big difference from hangdogging every comment that isn't cheer-leading versus interjecting some directional thought. If all that gets posted here is "You go Ted" or "Get on the Trump train" - then why have a forum.

Playing rope-a-dope by taking punches in a primary that was loaded with angry conservative voters is way different than selling yourself to the masses that are uniformed, even of those masses know Trump from his corporate and TV show image.

You think Trump should voluntarily turn over his funds to the media companies? Bad idea.

As one who has yet to see a Hillary Ad (I don't watch TV), I enjoy following Trump on Twitter and YouTube.

The media is not getting the Trump $$s and that is just fine with me.

That belies what actually happens. If that were true than the democrats wouldn’t spend money now. They would just buy up every ad slot from October through to the election. Negative, early image ads work. History proves that. A late media blitz against Hillary will have no effect whatsoever.

re: negative ads are most effective when used two weeks before the election.

That's not true anymore. With early voting and mail-in ballots, people start voting as much as a month before the election. If he waits much longer, there will be a lot of voter's remorse, but they'll still be hillary votes. What he should be doing is giving minority and other pockets with a lot of voters that should logically support Trump talking points before people start their autumn schedules.

In PA, I’ve seen zero Trump ads since the primary was over. I see zero signs in yards. I see no ground game whatsoever. I get emails about campaign appearances in Eire and Altoona. That’s it. I sent him $100 back in July and ordered bumper stickers. Still haven’t received them

It’s like he wants to lose. Between his lack of ground game and him only focusing on the media, I’m getting a bad taste in my mouth. He better step it up.

2016 is not 2012. Trump is not Romney. Trump is fine. No need to panic.

Vote Trump 2016

If you use negative ads too early people tend to forget by voting day. That being said I have repeatedly posted that I believe Trump should be doing some ads now in 3-4 swing states and then saturate the final 30 days. He absolutely needs to advertise or he will lose.

“I think it’s funny, the liberal media that so hates Trump gives him millions of dollars worth of free publicity!”

It is free publicity meant to destroy.
