Witnessing a ‘Complete Collapse of Society’ in Venezuela
TIME ^ | August 9, 2016 | by Olivier Laurent

Posted on 08/09/2016 2:29:40 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Alvaro Ybarra Zavala puts it bluntly: “Venezuela has become hell.”

The photographer had just returned from one of his latest trips to the South American nation when he talked to TIME, and he was visibly affected by the chaos he had witnessed there. “There’s a complete collapse of society,” he said.

Once an example for the continent, Venezuela is now a country in freefall. “It’s hard to find food, there’s no medicine,” said Ybarra Zavala. “If you have to have surgery, you need to bring everything with you: the bandages, the gloves, everything. There are no anesthetics.”

Ybarra Zavala was on assignment for TIME last month, chronicling the country’s breakdown. His photographs show daily street protests that are often violently repressed, empty shelves in deserted grocery stores and people lining up, sometimes for entire days, for gas. “No one believes anymore in the army, in the police, in the system,” said Ybarra Zavala.

The photographer - who’s worked in Iraq, Afghanistan and Colombia - said Venezuela is the “hardest place I’ve worked in”.

The collapse, set in motion by Hugo Chavez’s 14-year reign, now seems irreversible, he adds: “For the last four years, Venezuela has been in constant crisis and it never blew up. But now, I’m very scared of how it will end. I think Venezuela crossed the line of no return. I’m worried what will happen next.”

And now we will see what happens next. I don't see any soft landing here, and only the thugs and the crazies are armed. Historically the usual ploy is to pick a fight with somebody else and hope to unite the people through a common enemy. The one Venezuela usually uses is Colombia. But if the society deteriorates far enough even that fails, only escape is possible, and Bolivarian America will have its own self-inflicted refugee crisis.

I don't see why the U.S. is obligated to pay for somebody else's socialism experiment, especially since we have fools of our own. But I sure wouldn't bet against it.

The possibility of Venezuela turning into the South American version of Somalia may not be ridiculously far-fetched anymore.

Venezuela’s neighbors should march in as allies, restore order and then carve it up.

And the writer says it’s sad that the Bolivarian revolution is a lost opportunity.

Spooky. A former vibrant nation of 30,000,000 people with enough natural resources to thrive but hobbled by communist elites masquerading as more palatable socialists.

“...Commies never learn....”

It is the fat cats at the top of communism that want it. They know. And they do not care about the slaves. As long as the useful idiots keep them in power.

Capitalist American press would report it that way.

No, what we are seeing is the total success of socialist progress. Self sufficiency. Abundance. Jobs for all. All needs met. All without capitalism and the classes of people it produces.

Look to Venezuela for the archetype of the future of socialist utopias. This is what glories await under socialism.

Hugo Chavez’s 14-year reign, now seems irreversible

Its completely reversible, starting today. End currency controls. Allow the free sale and trading of food and commodities. End all price controls. Let banks and industries fail. Set tax rates at low levels.

But that's obvious....

Maduro armed the poor, so as to ensure that subsidies/benefits could not be cut without triggering violence.

This ensures that the place will keep spiraling down until there is nothing left. At that point, the poor will riot, but it will do no good. I don’t think there is a viable solution — the good years have resulted in breeding more poor than the country can now support. When things fall apart, they will all be heading here.

The oil price collapse didn’t help this situation either. Most of the Chavez social programs were supported by oil revenue.

You noticed the false connection, too. They connect the evil, socialism, and communism with “populism”. LOL Without Virtue, there is no Freedom no matter WHAT system exists. Moral formation of children was destroyed by “public indoctrination systems” into stupidity and depravity>

The skooling of the little socialists destroyed virtue formation-—no wisdom, no perseverance, no courage, no justice-——no virtue which has to be habituated in children.

The Christianity was totally corrupted by the Marxists in 1920s-—and the “Liberation Theology” (communism) just rots the brains of the masses/children and promotes vice (theft/lazyness/stupidity) 24/7.
