WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement today on the passing of former U.S. Senator Harry Byrd Jr.:
Anne and I join all Virginians in mourning the passing of Harry Byrd Jr. Few families have dedicated as much to our Commonwealth as the Byrds. Harry carried on that tradition as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II and an elected representative in both the Virginia legislature and the U.S. Senate. One of the highlights of my time as governor was hosting Harry and his adult grandchildren at the mansion where he told stories from his boyhood. His civil manner and commitment to public service will be missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this time.
Did they bury sheets byrd in his grand dragon whites?
Wonder if the Kaine Mutiny ever burned a few crosses with Ol’ Sheets?
His ole’ buddy,”Hang ‘em high Harry.”
Can you provide us ignorant on the subject some enlightenment?
A Bullshit Alert should have been added to the header———what a crock.
.
The story’s about Harry Byrd, not Robert Byrd, though it can be confusing.
Are we mixing him up with ROBERT BYRD from WEST Virginia?
That was Robert Byrd, Wrong Senator-Robert Byrd (Sheets) was from West Virginia.

>>The father’s hallmark, and that of his organization, became Byrd’s as well - an insistence upon fiscal restraint on the part of government, referred to as the policy of “pay-as-you-go”. Byrd reflected this populist political legacy when he stated, “I am convinced we have too many laws, too much government regulation, much too much government spending. The very wealthy can take care of themselves, the very needy are taken care of by the government. It is Middle America, the broad cross section, the people who work and to whom the government must look for taxes - it is they who have become the forgotten men and women.
>>He continued to caucus with the Democrats, and extended his Democratic seniority. But like his father, Byrd had a very conservative voting record and was a strong supporter of federal fiscal discipline, as he had been at the state level. In fact he authored, and Congress passed, a floor amendment stating, “Beginning with fiscal year 1981, the total budget outlays of the Federal Government should not exceed its receipts.” Consistent with this fiscal policy, Byrd was a minimalist as a producer of legislation - believing less was more.[

DNC CHAIRMAN TIM KAINES STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF SENATOR ROBERT BYRD
SUBMITTED BY NEBRASKA DEMOCRATS ON 28 JUNE 2010 - 11:30AM
Washington, DC—DNC Chairman Tim Kaine issued the following statement on the passing of Senator Robert Byrd, an advocate for West Virginia and the longest serving U.S. Senator in history:
“Today, the American people lost an exceptional public servant. Senator Byrd will be missed not only in West Virginia, but also in homes and hearts across America. For more than five decades, Senator Byrd worked in Congress to help working families achieve the American Dream. He was first and foremost the advocate of those most in need — fighting for educational programs and legislation that would help renew opportunity in areas of the country where opportunities were often scarce. Throughout his career, he fought for his beliefs and his constituents while keeping a national and international perspective. He prided himself on his knowledge of our Constitution and its principles.
“In addition to being a national leader, Senator Byrd was also a Democratic leader and a strong voice for the party. In numerous leadership positions over the years, he fought to advance Democratic principles. As his career progressed, he wielded the powers of Congress to defend the rights and advance the interests of Americans seeking opportunity and justice. And as the longest serving U.S. Senator in history, Senator Byrd’s legacy will long reverberate through the Senate.
“Leaders like Senator Byrd don’t come along often. On behalf of the Democratic Party, my heart goes out to Senator Byrd’s family and friends and to all those who cherished him. He will be miss
Harry Byrd - not an attractive name.
Kaine truly sucks. I mean, he really sucks. Nobody wants this guy anywhere near their little boys. He is a pathetic, low life creature that nobody ever heard of. I mean nobody.
Yeah but it was back in 2013 so i had thought it was robert. My bad.
Still, my question is a good one. Anyone know?
Completely unlike Robert Byrd, Harry was a great man and a great conservative.
And not a mention of his membership in the KKK - the first thing in the story about David Duke’s running for Senate as a Republican which is all over the MSM today....
He was great battling the Undertaker.
Byrd was one of the most conservative members of the Senate. His father Harry Byrd, Sr. was also very conservative and an arch-segregationist.
