[Vanity] On CNN - Ted Cruz Will Not Endorse Trump In Speech
CNN | July 19, 2016 | Pinkbell

Posted on 07/19/2016 11:45:20 PM PDT by Pinkbell

CNN had two different people on who said Ted Cruz will not be endorsing Cruz in his speech. The one reporter said that Ted Cruz anticipates running for President in 2020 if Trump loses and wants to show his sympathies with the Never Trump movement who has supported him.

This is just as I feared when Ted was asked to speak. Trump was kind enough to ask him, but I worried that Ted would use this speech to pad his own resume, to preach to his base, to audition for 2020. Ted should not be permitted to use this speech for his own ambitions.

Ted Cruz has allowed the Never Trump movement, with many of the members (at least the ones I see on Twitter) as Cruz supporters, to fester. He allowed the division and the attempts to free the delegates, ignoring the will of the people. That chaos on the floor the other day? Led by Cruz allies/delegates!

Ted Cruz has refused to honor a pledge that he signed, that he would have expected Trump to honor. Ted knows that his endorsement may encourage some of his supporters to vote for Trump. Ted also knows it might push some of his supporters away, the ones who would call it a betrayal. Ted is staying with the ones who would call it a betrayal.

If Ted is a true conservative, 4 years of Hillary and her stacking the court would be unthinkable. If Ted is a true Republican, he would want a Republican to win. It seems he is putting his political ambitions first. It's good for Ted Cruz (in his mind) if Trump doesn't win, but it's certainly not good for our country. I don't think it will be good for Ted either. He just doesn't realize now that 14 million Trump voters won't forget how he conducted himself.

Ted's spot should be revoked in an ideal world. Unfortunately, I think the media fallout if Trump revokes and party division with Cruz supporters who are reluctantly voting for Trump would be a problem at this point. He'll be allowed to speak, and I think he should have never been offered the slot.

Maybe CNN has absolutely blown this and will have egg on their face tomorrow. Maybe their sources will be wrong or maybe Ted will change his mind. If Ted does endorse Trump, I think opinions on him would improve.

Wow. This guy is a piece of work.

Anyone with eyes to see could have discerned, from his behavior over the course of the campaign, that he is emotionally and mentally damaged goods. Thank goodness for our country that he was exposed for the shameless charlatan that he is.

Well I guess Glen will be happy

Ted Cruz has turned out to be a clueless self centered moron.

Every step he has taken has been a misstep

Ted Cruz will not be endorsing Cruz

I don't blame him for that.

Your post is seriously confused. Are you voting for him even though “God has promised to destroy the work of his hands?”

And has God spoken to you personally to confirm his future plans?

Trump supporters are over the primary. It’s you tantruming Cruzlims that continue to attack fellow conservatives while Americans lay dead in the street by the dozens from Democrat policies. Given that you should not be surprised there is return fire from Trump supporters. Too much is at stake here. Ted Cruz and his supporters have been pathetically MIA. You have earned every bit post primary of derision that comes your way.

The Rovians said this morning that his speech has been vetted by the Trump campaign.

This is more drama and conflict anti-Trump forces are dreaming up to show there is no unity in the party.

Prediction: Do not be surprised if Kacish shows up Thursday night to introduce Trump. I am betting Trump has called him personally.

What, and not get to rant crazily on a CNN talking head's hunch? You new here?

That said, I expect he will endorse Donald - and I expect that it won't be good enough for some on this forum.

"I do not think Cruz will do well in 2020"

I don't think he'll win reelection in Texas for Senate.

About 18months ago I posted an article that said Cruz was for legalizing (Green Cards) illegals in place and that he was against deportation.

Jim threatened to zot me.

I’ve seen that picture of Trump and Cruz (in post 9) plenty of times, but have just noticed how ill fitting his jacket is.

The sleeves are way too long - did he have to borrow one of Trumps jackets for the picture?

Why would this guy be allowed to speak if he is not getting behind the candidate. Screw him. He’s a dirtball.

Cruz will replay another Ted: Ted Kennedy's snub of Carter after he secured the 1980 Democrat nomination.
Source: Columbia Journalism Review: "The Snub"

...

Kennedy did finally arrive at Madison Square Garden. He gave Carter a perfunctory handshake and then seemed to turn his back on the President, skirting around the edges of the podium as party officials tried to arrange a victory photograph. Jules Witcover and Jack Germond, in Blue Smoke and Mirrors, quote a Carter intimate as saying the President “looked like a puppy dog” trotting after Kennedy. They also quote party chairman, Robert Strauss, after a reporter told him the scene “looked like hell,” as saying “it looked worse than hell.”

Will Cruz shake Trump's hand tonight, like in Post#9 above? Doubtful. More likely, Cruz will deliver his speech, then slink offstage.

I was a Cruz supporter. I believed he was the only conservative in the race. I believed he had the best shot at beating Hillary. Nobody in politics does things for purely selfless reasons. I understand why Cruz is trying to play things in a way that works out best for him in the end. I don’t fault him for that.

All that being said.....

I will be terribly disappointed if he does not endorse Trump as he said he would. It shows lack of character by not keeping his word.
I will be terribly disappointed if he thinks distancing himself from Trump and then Trump losing will give him a better chance in 2020. It shows a lack of judgement. All of the people who are supporting Trump will never vote for someone who they view as having had a hand in his defeat. The pendulum will swing fully back to GOPe candidates and Cruz will be left on the outside.

Cruz’s best bet is to endorse Trump. He should say, “We don’t know if Trump is as devout a conservative as he says he is yet, but we know he is more conservative than Hillary. After he beats Hillary, we will keep tabs on how he governs and hold him to his promises as I am sticking to my promise by endorsing him.”

This way, if Trump governs irresponsibly or as a liberal, Cruz can run against him in the primary. If he doesn’t build the wall, or deport illegals or bring jobs back or stop Muslim immigration or go after ISIS, the people who supported him will be pissed. They might enthusiastically jump to Cruz in the 2020 primary. I know sitting Presidents don’t usually get primaried but these are unusual times.

On the other hand, if Trump governs as a conservative and does everything he said he would do, we all win (including Cruz).

Who knows what broke up two of his marriages?

I'm pretty sure he cheated on Ivana with Marla Maples. It was big tabloid news at the time.
