Federal Judge Throws Out Clevelands GOP Convention Security Plan Byron Tau June 23, 2016 1:37 p.m. ET
CLEVELANDA federal judge on Thursday struck down the city of Clevelands rules limiting protests during next months Republican National Convention, finding the citys strict security regulations violated the U.S. Constitution.
U.S. District Court Judge James Gwin ruled the citys establishment of a large zone around the July convention site within which protesters ability to demonstrate would be strictly limited contravened the Constitutions guarantees of the freedom of speech and assembly.
Under the First Amendment, I do find that the city hasn't sufficiently, narrowly drawn the regulations to serve government interests, Judge Gwin told attorneys at the conclusion of the two-hour hearing.
He said he would follow with a formal ruling. Lawyers for the city indicated that they were considering an appeal.

so move it someplace else
The rights of speech and assembly don’t mandate a forum for either.
What if the GOP said that they were going to excercise their 2nd Amendment rights? I wonder what the judge would rule then.
Protesters have a constitutional right to beat up Trump supporters?
The “judge” is a Clinton Appointee.
Candidate Trump could move it. Logistics.
In the meantime, Philly is building a fencewall to pen in the protesters.
Establish a protest zone at the Federal courthouse. That should make everyone happy.
Which Idiot picked Cleveland ?
This is beyond ridiculous, it could result in violence.
“The judge is a Clinton Appointee.”
I was wondering about that. Thanks for the info.
Yes. Holding the GOP convention in Cleveland will be the American equivalent of going to Brazil for your Olympics competition even though you already know of the dangers that await you. High crime, collapsing observatory bridges, endemic government corruption, ZIKA!!, polluted fetid, uncleanable bodies of water for your Swim Team.
Move it somewhere less infested with Rats!
People like Mitt or George Will will about have a stroke, so keen will be there sense of shock and disappointment.
And the Democrats get to put up a large fence and corral demonstrators within parks.
Better yet, just ignore the judge. What is he going to do?
No chit. Why do conservatives/republicans always have these types of things in highly dim'o'cRAT enclaves?
If the GOPe steals the nomination from Trump, and rioting monkeys & cockroaches beat up (or kill) convention attendees in Cleveland, who gets lynched first: this judge, Reince Priebus or Paul Ryan?
Doesn’t really matter who’s first I suppose, just so all 3 get it along with the vast majority of “protestors”.
Edit: And Mitt Romney.
No he can’t and no he won’t.
Logistics is the largest reason why they chose Cleveland.
It has a compact downtown with all the major venues and hotels connected by underground tunnels. This is simply a nonsense ruling that the city has already appealed his idiocy and they have no intention of letting the protesters get within half a mile of the venues.
The city already handled over 1.3 million revelers in the city just yesterday for the Cavaliers Victory Parade and Rally with few problems.
