If you haven’t been keeping up with the gun control debate following the Orlando terrorist attack, many democratic senators are conducting a filibuster of sorts to demand banning certain types of weapons. Illinois senator, Dick Durbin, apparently couldn’t resist speaking on the topic either.
Ironically, every word that left Dick Durbin’s mouth made him look like a complete jackass. He claimed that no self-respecting sportsman in his home state of Illinois would ever use an ‘AR-47’ to hunt deer.
Senator Durbin is actually correct for two major reasons.
First of all, there’s no such thing as an ‘AR-47.’ There’s an AR-15. There’s an AK-47. But nope, no AR-47’s. So clearly nobody could ever use a rifle to hunt deer that doesn’t even exist. Sorry Dick.

If I wanted to shoot a larger caliber on an AR platform
I’d buy an AR-10 in .308. Great caliber for deer, elk and even moose.
It’s not legal here in Indiana either. We just opened up the door to the various .30cal/7.62 flavors for deer. Previously you had to use shotgun, .357 mag, or .44 mag.
Like I said, .223 is not legal for deer hunting in most states. I’m sure a number of other states on the list that only say “centerfire” have caliber restrictions if you look into it.
Staying with the AR platform saves a bunch of money. 200 bucks vs 1,000 plus you can use your existing mags.
The AR-10 is more powerful than 300BO, and recoils accordingly, some folks don’t mind recoil, some do.
I myself shot quite a few deer with a mini 14 with cheap glass in the Mississippi bottom lands

Unlike some other fancy evil looking rifles you can actually use an AK for hunting deer but your range is limited.
