Dick Durbin Says No Self-Respecting Sportsman Uses an 'AR-47' to Hunt Deer in Illinois
BuzzPo ^ | 6/15/2016 | BY ERIC REED

If you haven’t been keeping up with the gun control debate following the Orlando terrorist attack, many democratic senators are conducting a filibuster of sorts to demand banning certain types of weapons. Illinois senator, Dick Durbin, apparently couldn’t resist speaking on the topic either.

Ironically, every word that left Dick Durbin’s mouth made him look like a complete jackass. He claimed that no self-respecting sportsman in his home state of Illinois would ever use an ‘AR-47’ to hunt deer.

Senator Durbin is actually correct for two major reasons.

First of all, there’s no such thing as an ‘AR-47.’ There’s an AR-15. There’s an AK-47. But nope, no AR-47’s. So clearly nobody could ever use a rifle to hunt deer that doesn’t even exist. Sorry Dick.

Without getting completely in the weeds, the .223 is technically the same as a .22. The bullet design, cartridge design, powder charge, and cartridge type (centerfire vs. rimfire) are completely different, but the diameter of the projectile is nearly the same.

“I’m waiting for the model that has a rail for cruise missile attachment.”

I’m waiting on the rail gun version that fires a 6.5 mm tungsten bullet at mach 8 using a solar powered battery.

It can take out tanks as well as armored baby carriages.

Well, yeah. It’s only legal to hunt deer with shotgun slugs in Illinoise (spelling deliberate). Make it legal to use rifles and they would.

I don't want to check the regs of every state you list but at a glance I can see that .223 is not allowed in Colorado.

Colorado- .24 and up, 70grn or larger bullet/ minimum of 1000ft/lbs at 100 yards

.223 is .22 caliber not .24 so that's right out.

Actually, there is even an AR-57.

Pretty interesting hybrid, and could be ideal for those urban warriors who are slow at magazine changes.

An AR15 is essentially a .22 caliber gun, .223 to be precise.

Another glance shows several other states where .223 would not meet the minimum caliber or other restrictions.

Alberta- .23 and up centerfire
Connecticut- .243 and up if legal in your area
Delaware- shotgun/muzzle loader
Illinois- Shotgun/ML/Pistol only
Iowa- .24 or larger centerfire only for antlerless season in part of the state.
Kansas- .23 or larger centerfire (actually says larger than .23 so maybe .24 is the mininum)
Mass- Shotgun/ML
Minnesota- .24 and up centerfire
New Jersey- shotgun only
Nova Scotia- .23 and up
Ohio- Shotgun/ML
Quebec- 6mm/.243 and up
Rhode Island- shotgun/ML
Saskatchewan- .24 and up
Virginia- .23 centerfire and up
Washington- .24 centerfire and up
Wyoming- .23 centerfire and up

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting Dick and you know it. It has everything to do with the people being able to protect themselves from overbearing government which means the ability to fight the army....that is the ability you are trying to take away then the question is why?

It is time for Americans to really think of the long term implications of why this government is hell bent on taking people's guns away.

"I’m waiting for the model that has a rail for cruise missile attachment."

Ha! They've been available at Toys R Us for months. Did you look on the non-gender-specific aisle? (I'm guessing you looked in the Boy's Toy Section.)

The AK-47 is suitable for ridding the world of blow-hard, truth bending, enemies of freedom and the US Constitution.

Just take your favorite AR and put a 300 BO barrel on it. BO is for Blackout, not B 0bama.

With just a barrel swap, no other parts to change, it shoots a 30 cal bullet with the ballistics of an AK or 30-30.
