During a private meeting on Wednesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi rejected the assault weapons ban being pushed my Democrat colleagues and Fox News Gretchen Carlson.
Pelosi said Democrats should focus on fights that are actually winnable, and she does not see an AR-15 ban as one of those fights.
According to Politico, Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) put forward the assault weapons ban, and Pelosi shut it down. She said, Its not that were not strong enough to make the fight. Its just that we want to win the fight.
Breitbart News reported that Gretchen Carlson took time on air Tuesday to push for a ban on AR-15s. She said they are not needed to hunt or kill deer and suggested they only serve to enable terrorists to carry out their attacks with greater efficiency. She quoted a December 2015 poll showing majority support for an assault weapons ban and said, Im with the majority today, taking a stand.
Pelosi is saying such a ban is not going to happennot now anyway.
But this does not mean Pelosi and the Democrats are done pursuing gun control. On the contrary, she is being pragmatic and seeking controls both winnable and insidious.
Gun controllers, like Sandy Hook Promises Mark Barden, agree with this approach. Barden said, We work hard to try to stay out of the polarizing divisiveness that comes with this debate. Weve identified the lack of engagement as really the No. 1 issue that is keeping this movement from moving forward. By steering around that, we feel like we can bring more people and more voices.
On July 17, country music singer Tim McGraw held a gun control fundraiser consisting of a concert, with all proceeds going to Sandy Hook Promise.

Internal polling must be showing that the issue is certain death to pols pushing it.
Gotta protect that gravy train.
Well, Gretchen just went off my watch list. We keep reading all this crap about assault rifles and I keep wondering why these people use rifles for close up shooting against unarmed victims. Seems to me a couple of hi cap pistols with a goodly supply of loaded magazines would be easier to conceal and wield ala Virginia Tech. And what about shotguns? You can create far more damage per shot.
I know a lot of people who own AR-15 style guns. The vast majority are either retired military or government law enforcement officers. They purchase these guns to retain skills and simply enjoy occasional target shooting with a light recoil bullet. I have no objection to their ownership and actually feel safer knowing that these guns are available should the need arise. As a side note, I love the Swiss concept of civilian-soldiers keeping automatic weapons in their homes. Don’t see many riots or home invasions there, do you?
I’ve seen that a few times.
She remembers 1994.
Actually the vast majority of people who own tactical rifles are average everyday people like me and Mr. GG2. Everybody we know owns at least one. They are fun to shoot and great personal protection weapons as well as small game sport rifles.
The chances of Congress passing another assault weapons ban and living to tell about it are zero to none. Even Nancy Pelosi realizes there is no chance of doing it. Things being what they are it would likely kick off CWII.
I remember when TV news folks never expressed an opinion. Now I am shocked when they tell you the news.
“I still prefer a handgun in a pinch, but I do like firing the AR-15.”
What’s the purpose of a handgun? To fight your way to your rifle when necessary!

You shouldn’t if your opponent a) has body armor or b) is more than 50 yards away... :-)
Still, it’s much better than nothing. I say CCW with an AR in the vehicle just to be on the safe side. ;-)
(Come to think of it, I should look into the rules for “shorty” AR CCW around here. A 10” barrel 300 Blackout might be interesting. Heh.)

Sounds about right to me...I never thought I’d see this level of unrest in America.
I’m very small in stature. In an emergency i want something i can grab and aim quickly.
Mine has certainly killed deer. It also has some other uses.
i can’t see farther that 50 yards.
