how to cover donald trump fairly, a style guide
washington post ^ | june 14, 2016 | alexandra petri

But it may not be too late for you, other members of the media! Please read and implement!

The Pillars of Covering Trump:

1. Donald Trump is never wrong.

Donald Trump is infallible — like the pope but with more raw sexual charisma. If Donald Trump appears to be wrong in a story, either because of a statement or an action, or some combination of the two, it should be rewritten so that he is not wrong. A good baseline for what is fair and honest coverage is that fair and honest coverage depicts Donald Trump as the shining, golden god he is, envied of men and beloved of women. Unfair, dishonest coverage does not depict Donald Trump this way.

2. Style is as important as substance. A good post about Donald Trump includes at least one of the following words: “huge,” “great,” “manly,” “terrific,” “incredible,” “fantastic,” “remarkable,” “big”/”bigly,” “immense,” “girthy,” “magisterial,” “gargantuan,” “tumescent.” Ideally, this word would be in the headline. A bad post about Donald Trump includes the words or phrases “puny,” “dangerous,” “Godwin’s law,” “cocktail shrimp in a toupee,” “husk of dead skin and hyperbole,” “garbage fart,” “what results if you accidentally leave Guy Fieri in a microwave.”

He truly is making them cry like babies. They look pathetic to anyone with a brain.

Today’s so-called “journalists” wrap themselves in the mantle of the First Amendment like it is holy scripture meant only for them.

To my mind a “journalist” citing the First Amendment is akin to an abortionist calling himself a humanitarian.

I can keep informed what the “other side” is doing without voluntarily putting one dime of my money in their pocket. Same with the entertainment business—not one dime. If I can step away from Brad Thor my once favorite author, the others are no problem.

Fine humor and Unintended irony. Hillary actually sent this message just about verbatim to “journalists” and they meekly stepped into line. Nary a peep. But they have to invent this fiction about Trump. Sweet irony.

The only major group trusted LESS than the press is congress... they’re very proud of that.

The next Pope needs to fire Cupich before the sun sets on the day of his election. Follow with Dolan several days later. Like Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Make them think it’s going to continue indefinitely. Follow with O’Malley. Rinse, repeat.

Of course, the only entity that CAN violate the First Amendment is Congress.

“...it is often best to take into account what Donald Trump should have said and to report that instead of what he actually did say. (The great historian Thucydides used to do this, which is why Pericles’s Funeral Oration is so lovely.)”

The Washington Post has debased itself in a whole new way over the past week. They are acting like a bunch of spoiled children who had their toys taken away because they couldn’t follow the rules and now their response is to throw a temper tantrum.

Every day I find a new reason to like Trump, and calling out the lying press is one of the biggest.

Iirc, Thucydides himself admitted that he was making up the dialogue.
