BEIJINGA high-speed rail agreement touted as a symbol of U.S.-China cooperation has fallen apart less than a year after it was signed.
XpressWest, a private U.S. company, on Thursday said a venture with China Railway International to build a high-speed rail line to link Southern California with Las Vegas wont proceed.
In a statement, the U.S. company said it terminated the partnership because of difficulties associated with timely performance and its Chinese partners challenges in obtaining necessary approvals to proceed with the project.

P!
America is a quickly becoming a 3rd world country in the complexity of its government, permitting, influence buying, and achieving political agreement for such a huge project.
I will never do another deal with any Chinese partners. I built a $155 million power project with a power purchase agreement with the Chinese government tied to its output. After building said project the government decided they did not like the terms of the deal. We had to sue and recovered pennies on the dollar some years later. All Chinese businessmen view contract terms as negotiable after they are signed. The first thing Mao did after taking over in 1949 was abolish contract law. Never again will I do business there.
Do all of China’s trade partners know they are getting screwed?
If the playing field was even across the board our trade surplus surely would be less.
Trust them as much as the klintoons
Given China’s history of shoddy work, getting them off the job sounds about right.
I’m so confused. I thought it was racist to use Chinese to build our railroads.
The US should also throw itself off the stupid ridiculous project.
