Poll: Dem candidate leads Mia Love by 6 points

Freshman Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah) is trailing Democratic candidate and attorney Doug Owens by 6 points in a rematch for her targeted House seat, a new poll finds.

Owens received support from 51 percent of likely voters compared to 45 percent for Love, according to the Salt Lake Tribune/Hinckley Institute poll conducted by SurveyUSA found. Four percent said they were undecided or supporting a third-party candidate.

Love’s campaign questioned the poll’s unexpected results.

"I don't believe the numbers to be honest with you," strategist Dave Hansen told The Salt Lake Tribune. "The numbers just do not make sense."

Owens embraced the results, saying, “it’s clear that voters want a chance.”

"I'm excited by the outpouring of support from my fellow Utahns,” Owens said. "I'm not taking anything for granted. We're working hard every day for every vote."

SurveyUSA’s Jay Leve said the presidential race is likely having an impact on the race.

When the survey was conducted, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump was coming under fire for his comments about an Indiana-born federal judge’s “Mexican heritage.”

Love, a rising star in the Republican Party and the first black female Republican in Congress, narrowly defeated Owens in 2014 by several points in a year with major Republican gains.

The Cook Political Report lists Love’s seat as leaning Republican.

Democrats have targeted Love for defeat..

One of her actions, as a newly elected Rep, was to vote FOR Boehner for Speaker.

She endorsed Rubio, then cRuz.

She’s nothing more than a RINO who rode the TEA wave as a faux conservative/outsider.

I wonder if Boner would have backed Trump instead of backstabbing Trump like Ryan?

If Utah goes Democrat, Hillary would win by LBJ ‘64 proportions. That ain’t happening. In the past 20 years it was THE most GOP state in the nation in 2012, 2004, 1996 and 3rd most in 2008 & 2000.

When Bubba ran in 1992, it was his worst showing in the country, he placed THIRD behind Bush Sr and Perot, getting just over 24%. He still got just 33% in 1996. I’d expect Hillary’s showing there to be in that latter range.

Calm down, Naps. You’re acting nasty towards Impy.

Mia Love has been a disappointment, but she’s not so far to the left that replacing her with a Democrat is preferable here. Orrin Hatch holds the record for most liberal from UT and she’s not reached that point, yet (and he is definitely deserving of being replaced).

An aside, did you notice one of the rats running against Mike Lee is a bernout tranny who works a cash register? LOL. “Misty Snow”. A poll last month had it leading the rat primary, 33%-20% with the rest undecided.

I’d be surprised if UT Dems let “that” win the nomination.

You have to take it one by one and see if the time and dynamics are right for replacement. Love’s defeating Owens is paramount. Why ? Because a Democrat sat in that seat for way too long in a heavily GOP seat and was undefeated when he retired. Dem Owens’s father similarly was able to win a House seat and his winning could give the Dems a viable candidate for future statewide office, giving us another Jim Matheson.

If Love does manage to lose, that will be on her for not having done much to distinguish herself during her single term in office, and especially bad in a GOP seat. If she wins again, but by a paltry margin (say a couple points, while Trump wins in the district by 20% or more), that will set her up for a primary challenge in 2018. If and when that happens, that’s the time to move on her. Otherwise, we need to stick with her one more time this year since she has no primary challengers.

Your right. Frustrating so much. I hate all the trump haters and this one was one of them. She along with other will be a thorn in trumps butt. Useless but we’re stuck.

We need to let go of all the primary animosity and get everyone together. It’s way too important.

Yeah, all female political leaders are always quiet and passive; Margaret Thatcher and Sarah Palin come to mind as a example of just how quiet and passive women politicians can be. Mitch McConnell on the hand brings to mind the tough alpha male standing his ground.

Better advice, vote for strong tough candidates who mean what they say and will do what they promised, leave gender out of it. Gender and race identity politics have gotten this nation into a lot of trouble!
