After an entire day of getting abused on Social Media by angry Trump supporters and having nearly nobody come to his defense, the Idiot mayor attempted to backtrack a bit. However he could not help but throw in one more jab at Trump which infuriated the majority even more.

He should tell the cities he doesn’t need their police at his rallies if they are just going to sit there and watch violence occur.
Tell the police to “stand down” at home (without pay) and hire out some real riot trained security people who will actually do their job.

Trump has a golden opportunity now.
I know it would be expensive but he could hire private security to escort women and children,elderly and handicapped people out of his rallies to their cars (and more security along the exit routes).
He can say the police and mayors have shown that they will not protect their citizens so he has decided to take action himself.
It isn't. The BLM situations were mostly outside agitators, sometimes ginning up the locals. "Downtown" is very safe and isolated from the residential east and west sides. The exception was when the original BLM protests (mostly outside agitators) were allowed to run amuck. It seems to have been "lesson learned". Add to that, Cleveland residents have very acute awareness that conventions, tourists, and major sports/entertainment events bring in lots of revenue.
I was "downtown", just this past Thursday. Took an RTA bus, went to the casino, Rock Hall, to the Cavs gift shop for shirt. Walked everywhere. It was safe, relaxing, and very friendly. Things are still being spruced up. It looks like the city will be in great shape.
What they (or anyone else) can't be ready for is the unknown consequences of paid thugs who've been allowed to run amuck during primary season and with BLM and LaRaza protests.
Yeah, I'll defend my adopted city. Have you been to Cleveland in the past few years? It surprises most people who had preconceived notions.

wow I skimmed the mayor’s FB page and saw nothing but harsh critical comments.... not that he will really care, but the tally is about 1000 to 0 against him! Too bad that San Jose is such a leftist cesspool that there is no chance of replacing this turd with someone better.

They were denied that right by being verbally and physically attacked by a feral mob of degenerates outside the venue, and you allowed it to happen! You then had the nerve to blame the victims for the attacks?! Please do not attempt to justify that mob's criminality by citing Mr. Trump's "inflammatory hate speech" or whatever terms you choose. I could easily cite far more vile examples of that type of speech from groups such as Black Lives Matter and La Raza, who openly threaten the lives of individuals for nothing more than the color of their skin! You sir are a disgrace to your office and utterly negligent in protecting the rights of the people of your community. I would love to see the e-mail accounts of the organizers of the protest and that of the mayoral staff. I am sure it would paint a interesting picture.

It seems to me that the only "gauntlet" the Trump attendees need to pass through is one of volunteers (BIG ONES preferred) who will line the exit route, facing the mob, all armed with wasp spray and batons.
