Libertarians on Sunday selected former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson as their party's presidential nominee, at their party convention in Orlando, Florida.

"At a minimum, I think we're in the presidential debates," Johnson said to cheers.

Sarwark said the party had established a "back channel" to the Koch brothers, in the hopes the wealthy libertarian-leaning funders donate to the Libertarian Party. Sarwark also said he had been speaking to Matt Kibbe, former president of conservative advocacy group Freedomworks, about supporting the party's nominee.

Johnson received almost 1 percent of the general election vote in 2012

A recent national poll had Johnson receiving 10 percent of support from registered voters,

Another national poll showed 44 percent of registered voters would want a third party to run against Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, and Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee.

Johnson was a high tax, low freedom Governor. He keeps winning the LP nomination because he has some big money special interests behind him.

I've met him, I've heard him speak, he's a twerp. He's also a Mormon, so maybe Beck and mittens are supporting him.

In 2012 after Ron Paul lost the Republican nomination, Johnson tried to get the Ron Paul people to support him. They laughed at him.

It does seem that the global elite pro-cheap labor open borders contingent, now rejected by Republican voters, are going to hijack the Libertarian Party.

Scary. They'll take all the bad ideas they've force fed us for decades, add them to the worst of Libertarian ideas, and end up with something really bad, but with lots of money.

Johnson is just looking for his 15 min of fame and some $$$ that go with it.

The fools are those who are taken in by this nonsense and support him with their votes and money.

I’m not quite sure but if I were a betting man the only political party more useless than the Republican Party is the Libertarian Party.

Anyone who says they’re conservative and vote for a party that has an increasingly dismal track record of doing anything to stop Dem policies, let alone enact conservative ones, is sending them the message that they can do WTF-ever they want and we’re too afraid to walk off the plantation.

If you keep going to the same grocery store despite their staff getting ruder, prices going up, and the bathrooms getting filthier...guess what? They’ll never change because they have no incentive to. They can sit back and do a slop job and know you’ll show up like clockwork.

Unfortunately 3rd parties are effectively finished since Trump played the Rightwing Saviour(tm) card so magnificently. The last one with any real chance was Rand Paul and Lord did he try - but he couldn’t beat the promises of someone who reached Santa Claus-levels. I was hoping Trump would run a 3rd party with the resources he has, but he didn’t. Now by the next election 3rd parties could win in a landslide and it’s all but certain there won’t be enough of America left to save. At the 11th hour and 59th minute, we didn’t learn, and that’s that.

1% will hurt the dems worse than us

We need to help the Libertarians get their message out—i.e., "Legalize pot"—so they'll take more votes away from the Democrats than from us.

And rightly they should. Johnson isn’t fit to shine the shoes of either Rand Junior or Senior.
