Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson said Monday he "absolutely" stands by his preferred running mate's comment comparing Donald Trump's immigration plan to Nazi Germany.
"Absolutely, absolutely. In New Mexico here, is my door going to be knocked down because I'm going to get checked for papers?" Johnson, who served as New Mexico's governor for two terms, when asked by CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead."
Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld -- who is expected to be picked alongside Johnson to run on the Libertarian Party ticket at a nominating convention this weekend -- told The New York Times on Thursday that Trump's plan to remove the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants from the U.S. reminded him of "Kristallnacht," or the "Night of Broken Glass."

Exactly. I tend toward small-l libertarianism, but there’s no way I’ll vote for these asshats.
Both should not have ran at all in a 3rd party at all.
Nothing is more truly a libertarian principle--regardless of what some "Libertarians" may claim--than the right of a people to preserve their heritages--their achievements, cultural, material & spiritual--for their kith & kin; for their posterity, down through the generations.
Diverse groups--but specific diverse groups--originally settled in distinct communities, prior to the America that arose in the counter Revolution of 1775 -1781; very definitely with such preservation in mind. They intended not only to preserve heritage, of course, but to build on that heritage, generation by generation.
This experience is basic to understanding not only traditional American values--those that have been consistently rejected by the Leftist movements of the past century;--but also why before those Leftist movements started sucking our vitality away with crackpot agitations--we so clearly out-performed the rest of the world. Those specifically American sub-cultures unleashed the dynamic processes that made us out-perform.
Are Johnson & Weld in any sense comparable to Thomas Jefferson, as champions for American libertarian values? Dare they suggest that they are comparable? There is no question where Thomas Jefferson would stand with respect to the millions of Hispanic migrants, illegally in the Untied States. As Jefferson explained to Congress after the Louisiana purchase, he made the purchase--cutting legal corners to do so--precisely to establish a buffer between an Hispanic & Anglo world.
He was not, nor am I in any sense hostile to the well being of Mexico or Central America. But there is an immense cultural divide between the Anglo/Celtic culture of the Founding Fathers and that of contemporary Mexico; or that of Mexico in 1803 & 1804. May we both prosper; but may we both succeed in preserving our distinct heritages. And we do not need rioting Hispanics trying to alter our politics, or values or our preferences to achieve those ends.
I was operating under the same assumptions you were. I attended a lecture by a Libertarian candidate explaining things a few years ago. I got the impression, back then, that Libertarian principles were dependent on a stable, responsible population that doesn’t depend on government or a lot of supervision.
I was going to say that the Libertarian Party is the Democratic Party with lower taxes, but I think that your characterization is a better fit, since the GOP establishment has basically become a (slightly)lower tax version of the Democrats too.

Most “Libertarians” pay lip service to Milton Friedman’s statement that you can have a welfare state or liberal immigration policy, but not both. I say lip service because the Bill Welds and Gary Johnsons know they won’t get rid of the welfare state, but they persist in supporting liberal immigration policy anyway. Talk about putting the cart before the horse.
The liberals are so remedial they can’t be cured their mind has rotted away.
Small l-libertarianism is basically constitutional conservatism. I'm sympathetic to many (though not all) of their ideas. The Libertarian Party is basically made up of establishment Republicans who are liberal on social issues, or liberals who want a tax cut. Think of Jeb Bush smoking a joint or Bill Clinton supporting tax cuts through his own initiative, and you get a good idea of who Gary Johnson and Bill Weld are.
Funny this is Ron Paul is Libertarian but wants legal immigration only and to enforce the laws plus strengthen the border patrol.
All of the GOP candidates, except for Trump, took the same side as Gary Johnson, one in particular likened Trump’s immigration plan to Nazism (Cruz).
There's nothing in what I read that favors the US being over-run by people who undermine the US. If you read it, I'd be interested in your impression. I thought the policy made sense and that it's nothing like what Johnson and Weld are saying.
In that way, they aren’t so different from establishment Republicans. Establishment Republicans also pay lip service to “securing the border” and restricting legal immigration to meet economic needs. That’s the theory, which is completely different from the practice once they get elected, which is lax border security and amnesty for illegals.
One can reflect--as one must as a responsible citizen in a free society--strolling in a pasture, or even in a not crowded urban park; but as the population soars, that reflection is more & more challenged. One does not reflect very deeply in a bumper to bumper gridlock.
The duty of the United States Government must always be to its rooted citizenry; not to any foreign interest that might conflict with that first duty. Scratch an advocate of heavy immigration, and you will invariably find an internationalist, quite willing to deny the interests of his fellow citizens, while pursuing some humanist fantasy of a new world order.
After all, they've offered to toss the Muslims' salad, with no objection from the Muslims...
