Are You Ready For...Vice President Newt Gingrich?
townhall.com ^ | Guy Benson

Really interesting stuff from National Review's Eliana Johnson, whose latest campaign dispatch sheds light on just how close Newt Gingrich has become with the presumptive Republican nominee -- and how hard the former House Speaker is said to be lobbying behind the scenes for a spot on the ticket. Are you ready for Trump/Gingrich 2016, America?

Gingrich has, in effect, launched his own campaign to secure the nomination. “I think Newt is lobbying to be the vice president, and I think their people are paying a lot of attention to him,” says Ed Rollins, a Republican operative and former Gingrich staffer now working for a super PAC supporting Trump’s candidacy.

*snip*

Gingrich has a reputation for insinuating himself into campaigns by firing off dozens of e-mails brimming with ideas that range from brilliant to insane. While it’s a quality that has irritated previous presidential candidates such as John McCain and Mitt Romney, sources say that Trump has come to value the former speaker’s opinions. “They talk every day,” says a source familiar with the relationship, who claims that Gingrich e-mails Trump, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and campaign manager Corey Lewandowski “countless times a day.”...Gingrich’s influence within Trump World is widespread. Inside Trump’s newly established campaign offices in Washington, D.C., his fingerprints are everywhere. “Right from the minute I joined we were told that Newt will have his hand in every major policy effort,” says one Trump aide. “So one of the things I do when I’m researching or writing anything, in addition to looking at what Trump has said about anything, I look at what Newt has said.”

Thank you and BRAVO; well done!

Frankly, I am appalled and disgusted by most of these posts! FR used to be the place where most knew what they were talking about, understood politics, and the posts were brilliant. Obviously, that time is long gone and now we get a lot of pathetically stupid posts.

The powered princes of the military are now pro-homosexuals, trannies, and NOT anywhere near Patton nor McArthur’s caliber.

The association of Newt with Man Made Climate Change is mostly misinformation.

Watch the damn commercial and write down his exact words. Then read them back aloud. "We must take action to address climate change." That is the Left Wing message that has been hammered into people's skulls for two decades. He went on TV and said it a million times to millions of people. He added a conservative voice to the enviro-whacko fraud. That makes him a fool, whatever his intent

The only question we have is this, "who is the VP best suited to help Trump defeat Crooked Hillary in November?"

In other words, who is the VP that will help swing more Republican, Democrat and Independent votes away from Hillary than any other person? Gingrich does not come to mind. Rubio, Carson, Walker, Perry? Of these, I believe Scott Walker would be a super VP candidate.

The Clintons brought down Newt, rather easily, I might add. They aren't "afraid" of him at all!

Our posts are being ignored; sadly.

I am going crazy reading the majority of these posts and keep wondering WHY so many don't know/remember Newt's history. He's absolutely NOT whom they imagine him to be. He didn't even come up with the CONTRACT WITH AMERICA ( it was ALL someone else's work ) and if it hadn't been for the toe sucker, Clinton NEVER would have gone along with ANY of the things pushed upon him.

HELL NO! He's a mealy mouth, mushy guy, who does NOT share Trump's vision at all.

None whom you names are any good at all and Rubio isn't eligible; he isn't a NBC!

It’s a “great addition” only if you want Hillary to win.

Why? There's absolutely nothing wrong with Newt and he brings a political savvy to a Trumpster who has absolutely no idea how Washington operates.......

It almost makes me wonder if the RNC didn’t plant Newt out there 6-8 weeks ago, with the idea of sucking up to Trump, in order to gain his trust. Well, you must admit it makes more sense than the excrement we both had to read on this thread ...LOL

SO now we’re to trust a National Review reporterette’s version of events?

I am a big Newt fan but not for VP. For months I’ve posted that I’d like to see him as Chief of Staff. Trump and Gingrich would be an incredibly dynamic duo within the White House. The CoS has more influence than the VP.

Newt, like Trump, has his following, but is very open to all sorts of media attacks. Do we really want two older white guys with checkered pasts? I’d choose someone younger who can be groomed as the VP. And NOT Paul Ryan, much less Cruz. I have faith Trump will choose just the right person for his running mate.

His politics aside, he has big baggage. I like the guy, but people seem to have forgotten the circumstances under which he left the house. Part of it included a censure by the House Ethics committee voting 5 or 6 to 1 to punish him. He had to pay a $300,000 fine, and I think a year later he quit.
Yes, some of this was political and tanged, but he brings issues we don’t need against Crooked Hillary.

I’ve thought Rand Paul would be a good choice. I think retired senator Jim DeMint would be good too.

I’d like to see someone younger and one who espouses conservative principles. Paul comes from a state with coal concerns, and is next door to Ohio. He is also eloquent and I think young enough (he speaks a lot on college campuses) that he could be a draw for millennials and libertarians.

I know Ron Paul said he wouldn’t support Trump but I wonder if he would reconsider if his son was on the ticket. :)

people either don’t know or forget that Newt alienated the conservatives who made him Speaker.

I'm obviously one of those who forgot so remind me on what he did.......Thanks.

Maybe you have short memory as well, if I recall, his "Contract With America" allowed the GOP to gain a majority in the House of Representatives in the 1994 election. The first majority of our party in 60 years.....

You don't think that's significant?

The Contract With America came at the start of Newt’s speakership, before Newt began betraying his supporters.

One of his more cowardly episodes was when he threw the woman he chose as House Historian, Christina Jeffrey, under the bus rather than defending her against character assassins trying to smear her as an anti-Semite. It took a leftist from the ADL to come to her defense.
