The Mind of Donald Trump

A Psychologist Analyzes Donald Trump's Personality

...rambling psychobabble...

Summary:

Who, really, is Donald Trump? What’s behind the actor’s mask? I can discern little more than narcissistic motivations and a complementary personal narrative about winning at any cost. It is as if Trump has invested so much of himself in developing and refining his socially dominant role that he has nothing left over to create a meaningful story for his life, or for the nation. It is always Donald Trump playing Donald Trump, fighting to win, but never knowing why.

Trump knows exactly why he's fighting to win: to make America great again!

Self puffery is not narcissism. The real textbook example of narcissism and the wake of damage they leave is Barack Obama.

Tells us lots about the author. Nothing about Trump.

Yes. Republican politicians always get the psycho-babble treatment, don’t they?

The author and his friends on the left are the true lunatics. Look at their positions. This is the stuff they did to Goldwater in 1964.

The writer is probably describing himself--at least some major aspects of himself. He is clearly not describing Donald Trump.

Here is why I support Donald Trump, enthusiastically: Trump: Metaphor For American Conservatism.

But maybe I am being inaccurate as to the Atlantic author. He may just hate America, and simply wants to attempt to discredit an American patriot. He might even be an Obama supporter--that is one who is obsessed with hatred for America.

Another psychologist said that Trump was a “nationalist” not a narcissist. He loves and cares about his country & wants to personally do something to keep it from going down the tubes while narcissists care only about themselves. I don’t have the link .... but it was an actual article.

It appears the “narcissist” vs “nationalist” depends on which side of the political fence you find yourself. Interesting that Obama appears to be a classic narcissist & Trump is nothing like him.

As one who has an undergraduate degree and a 2 year post graduate degree in psychology, I tired of the mental masturxxxxxx in the profession and went to law school instead of getting a Ph.D. In my opinion, the author empitomizes the mental self pleasuring I despise.

People are incredibly complex, yet they posess a human nature in common with all other human beings.

Modern psychology and apparently this author is seemingly unaware of both facts.

I agree, I have tested over 1,000 people in their management style, including all professions government and private sector over the years.

there are none basic groups, trump falls into the “results Oriented” these are people who get their ego satisfaction out of getting things done. they are good delageters and measure you on your results not an method.

OTOH, Lawyers, politicians, journalists, entertainers etc. get their ego satisfaction from influencing/controlling people, they are poor delegators, and tend to micro manage.

Also, within these groups people have different energy levels, my guess is that Trump is at the high end when it comes to energy.

65% of the folks fall into the compliant or security oriented groups.

Trump is a great manager and team builder, just do what you said, no BS, and he will treat you great.

It’s truly surprising how all these anti-Trump atricles sound as though they were miraculously copied from anti-Reagan articles written in 1979 and 1980 by similar people. Whenever I read one, or part of one, I become more and more sure that Mr. Trump will be a truly great President in the tradition of Renaldus Magnus, forvwhom I am proud to have voted in 1976, 1980, and 1984.

Andrew Jackson displayed many of the same psychological qualities that we see in Trump.

And I'm a BIG Old Hickory fan.

Dizzy Dean said famously “it ain’t braggin’ if you can do it”. Make $10b- check. Date the hottest chicks anywhere-check. Build world landmarks-check. Become POTUS- check. We’re gonna need a new word for the alpha of alphas. Narcissist isn’t working, it’s way beyond that.

A Psychologist is always somebody who couldn’t do the work to become a Psychiatrist. “How do you feel about that?” Learn that phrase and you’re a qualified Psychologist.

I lack your experience in testing, although I have done much reading on such systems. (You meant nine basic groups, right?)

I submit that if one is simply reasonable and objective, then one can come to much the same assessment of a person like Trump; he doesn’t exactly hide that he is all about results and is highly energetic.

There is one quotation from my father that I have always remembered: “A good general never tells his men what to do. A good general tells his men what he wants, and then leaves it up to them to figure out how to do it.” (As a boy, that first line caught me off guard.) A good general sees the Big Picture (which, after all, is why he is called a “general” - as in not specific - officer and not a “private” officer).

Obama is a lawyer, and a dictator.

Trump is a general, and a delegator.

Give me Trump any day.

OTOH, I put together by delegating the largest protest in the state with which I lived.

People in those professions MAY have tendancies like you describe, but perhaps you should use the word “tend” instead of “get”. Yes, in most tradional thought, the exceptions to a statement are assumed, but our culture seems to need constant reminders in our languqage to keep that knowledge alive.
