Don’t get a big kick out of talking down Cruz at this point, but when I run into folks trashing Trump, I do it with pleasure.

The Cruz folks should fall in behind Trump. I already have.

This isn’t too hard a concept for folks to understand.

I’m already pulling for Trump to beat Hillary.

I wish everyone was. Alas, that’s too much to ask.

Oh, so real conservatism is all for big government as long as the right people are in control of the big government. I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up.

I know people who work at Walmart and know a Walmart manager. Until the advent of ObamaCare, that figure for what percentage of their employees are on Foodstamps wasn't true, it was more like 15% and most of them were part time folks or students (students even being on Foodstamps when they live at home with their parents or parent is another issue . . . ). When their hours were cut to thirty or fewer, that's when the the number really bloated up.

And, yes, taxpayers are subsidizing Walmart in a number of ways Foodstamps probably being the most visible of those.

“Not true. Protectionism ....”

I understand the concept.

The problem with protectionism in practice is it helps a select group of citizens to the detriment of the rest of us.

For example, I’d make a ton of money if the protectionist who want to levy oil imports to make my domestic oil more competitive — you know, to save jobs and give us energy independence.

But you would be paying $4/gallon for gas.

It never works out fairly — only those with buddies in the gubmint get “protected.”

More than half of Walmart’s employees are on food stamps
~~~~~~~
Wonder how the other half is managing to stay off food stamps?
“Wonder how the other half is managing to stay off food stamps?”
Probably 2nd income people who don’t have Walmart as the only income source.
Trump is more conservative than the average GOP candidate but that’s not saying much.
It’s a good thing that you weren’t around 200 years ago. You wouldn’t have liked the founding fathers.
Well of course -- that's why Mitt, Ryan, Graham, Jeb et al are (and have been) the ones threatening to go 'third party' -- they continue to try to destroy the Republican Party.
Even in the revamped government there were still lots of limits and powers placed in smaller governments to give people more power. Just because the first one didn’t work doesn’t mean the concept went away.
Been saying this since September, all one has to do is read his policy objectives. Only anti-conservatives oppose Trump, including the Cruz cult.
and how the hell do you construe I said that, out of anything I posted?....
Let make it simple for you.. give me a date when the US government first got “too big” “too intrusive” when it really started to “crossed that line”?.
I’d say around the turn of the 20th century when the Progressive Movement start trying to rewrite the Constitution constantly ...
I’ll peg it at Woodrow Wilson who was an anti tariff, free Trader, internationalist foreign adventurer ...Wilson created League of Nations the precursor to the United Nations...
Trump’s policys if you look at them are standard American pre Woodrow Wilson type policies
Trumps policies are something the founding fathers would be completely at home with... avoiding foreign entanglements, trade tariffs to protect encourage domestic markets....
Trump see us as a weakened Nation with a sick economy he going back to the standard policies that were used when first founded ... our economy is sick and he’s instituting the standard policies for a weak or sick economy that bleeding capital and jobs... it’s nothing new the founding fathers use the same type policies when the country was first founded so it’s hardly big government and anti conservatism
Policies for the benefit of the American people versus Progressive internationalism that we’ve been on since the beginning of the 20th century
and Trump’s campaign should tell you a lot about his personal management Style...... its total minimalism shows you the guy is not in to big cumbersome top-heavy bureaucracies ....his total campaign was lean tight minimalist efficient operation that’s his business model
I think I see you think Trump will try to rule via overeating executive order like Obama... ...why?
. what makes you think that Trump would be more inclined to try and do that vs. Someone like Cruz?
because if you use the campaigns as an example Cruz and the GOPe types seemed FAR more inclined to try and do the overreach or do the backroom maneuver to gain what he wanted ... the people and voters be damned... then Trump has....
Cruz and the GOPe have hardly showed a willing to limit and humble themselves to the will of the people/voter. they’ve been almost fanatical and want-to-be tyrannical to gain and keep power.. so they hardly breed any credibility
and again using campaigns as example Trump campaign has been far more minimalist than any of the other candidates... if Trump runs the country anywhere near the same way he run his campaign it would be an ideal model of small government
so where does this concept of the fear that Trump is this gigantic big government tyran?
versus any of the other candidates
because if you view them from their campaign perspective and how they behave Trump is the exact opposite
he’s had a small financially frugal campaign that would be an ideal example of a small government
versus the other guys big bloated bureaucracy and money-wasting campaigns...and far more authoritarian streak in their action in trying to dismiss the will of the people/voters, verses anything Trump has done
The constitution doesn’t apply limitations of power to how a private organization such as a campaign is run. But if you must make that leap to support Trump, then are you disappointed that he will take funding for the general election?
I don’t want Hillary picking the next supreme court appointment. That is almost all I have on supporting Trump. I don’t believe he is a conservative, I don’t believe he will keep the promises you list, I don’t even believe he has a great shot at beating Hillary... But again... I don’t want Hillary picking the next supreme court appointment... so I’ll stop there before I offend further.
conservatism basically follows the Goldilocks principle ..( trying to find that balance of not too hot not too cold just right)..... government is a necessary evil you both have to have it in you try to keep it minimized and controlled.. that’s something Libertarians completely forget
I like the way you said that. I've had many discussions with libertarians who insist that the Constitution does not say things it clearly says, and who cannot explain how the necessary functions of government would be done in the absence of government. They seem to think "the market" can substitute for just about any government function.
Lack of government is no more conservative than totalitarian government. Conservative government sits somewhere in the middle, ideally fostering an environment where people are as free as possible, limited only by the need to avoid infringing upon others' rights.
Exactly..we are dealing with the paradox that is man...
“IF men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.”......Federalist No. 51,
I think any understanding of man you must see him in all aspects and the paradox man that we must deal with.. we have governments because man is flawed and we restrict governments because governments are of flawed men.
I see it the same as ....The only true wisdom is knowing you know nothing
you only achieve Grace by confession of your sins
Man is not a perfect being...and by knowledge that your they came get closer to it..you humble yourself...
I think any conservative understands that .....its the left that things there without failing so arrogant think there perfect(they are God)..and these megalomaniacs on the left pass all these laws because they.think they are perfecting Society
In communism theory ... true communism is when the state actually withers away and dies and there is no government
