“Never Forget” has been forgotten.
A startling number of 9/11 monuments around the country have been vandalized or fallen into disrepair, including a $2 million Nassau County memorial. In Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, graffiti is scrawled across a section facing the wall of 10 plaques honoring 344 county residents murdered in the terror attacks. The empty fountain had condom wrappers; the base of a fountain displaying two 30-foot-tall aluminum towers is marred by peeling paint, while black marble tiles surrounding it are missing. Others are loose, some streaked with oozing white adhesive.
“A lot of blood and sweat went into this thing,” said Ian Siegel, president of a group that raised $341,000 in donations for the monument.
President George W. Bush joined weeping 9/11 families in 2004 to break ground for the memorial featuring steel beams from the fallen Twin Towers. It opened in 2007 and was the largest such monument before the reflecting pools at Ground Zero opened in 2011.
Patricia Mastandrea, a retiree who frequents the memorial, has noticed workers wiping off graffiti. “It just keeps coming back,” she said, blaming “kids who have no respect for anything.”
Plaques list the names, ages, hometowns, and north or south tower where the residents died, or their badges. They include 78 FDNY Bravest, 10 NYPD officers and five Port Authority cops.
In Green Bay, Wis., a 9/11 monument donated in 2005 by a private group with a salvaged World Trade Center beam has been rotting for years.
The names of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks are etched in granite around the memorial are no longer legible. It turns out the granite, which soon began to crack and erode, was meant for kitchen countertops.
“It’s embarrassing and disrespectful,” said Chad Bronkhorst, head of the city firefighter union.

THANK YOU! I am getting sick of EVERYTHING being a memorial these days. Whatever happened to the America that was the land of opportunity, where men strove for greatness? Now it’s “Boo hoo hoo, something bad happened”. Does every town have memorials to the Great Chicago fire or the San Fransisco earthquake of 1906? No. And as far as I’m concerned the only proper memorial to 9-11 would be an enormous crater where Mecca used to be. And while we’re at it could we cool it with the POW/MIA flags? It’s an importent issue, and those flags should fly over the local VFW and the homes of patriotic veterans; but do we really need to fly them over the town hall, the library, the post office and the highway rest stops?
America signalled to the world its self-destructive contempt for traditional ideas and ideals the moment it elected a Marxist revolutionary and self-professed moslem to the White House.

9/11 Should have been a call to arms, like 12/7/41 was.
But instead it went from “We hear you, the world hears you, and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us.”, to “islam is a religion of peace”, and “We will not tolerate any vigilantes on the border!”.
The media and schools treat 9/11 like it was a natural disaster, like Katrina. The man-child-in-chief made it ‘A day of service’.
Disrespect and the defacing of property are the inevitable result.
He might restore the monuments but he won’t restore the memory. The natural process of human history is to move on. It was 15 years ago. Kids born that day are getting ready to get their learners permits now. Many who remember are dead, many who are alive have no ability to remember.
Yes and he will surely heal the afflicted, give sight to the blind, and set heaven and earth aright. Guard your expectations. Even the best of men are only men at best.

Trump advocates less federal government overreach into our lives, and now you want him to use tax payer money as well as federal mandates to maintain memorials that were funded by local governments and private organizations?
