“Cruz needs to point out that his family has been in the U.S. a lot longer than Trump’s.”

You will have to explain that one.

All he does is throw tantrums and goes for the throat of others.

Why does this guy not ever be a gentlemen and, say, talk about inspiration he gets from God.

No? perhaps there is a reason he doesn’t.......

“Can you name a president who did not want to be president, who did not seek it?”

George Washington.

Typical Cruz-bot response. A little more mindless than normal.

They may have campaigned for re-election. Not Polk, though. He was selected and promised to not seek re-election. He added huge amounts of land to the US during his 4 years.

But did they campaign after nominated? If they did, they sought it (and accepted it).

Why is King Trumpy still on the attack? His handlers all say that he’ll easily get to 1,237 before the convention. I thought he had this thing in the bag. Why would he still be attacking?

Because you don't start celebrating until after you've crossed the goal line. Until then you try as hard as you can. Haven't you seen the NFL films where the guy breaks into a victory jog 5 yards before the goal line only to be tackled or worse the defense causes him to fumble?

I don’t know. If they didn’t campaign I’m sure their party did after nomination.

Then you must be a better historical writer than the American History Magazine.

Here’s a quote from them re Washington:

‘He had done nothing to promote himself as a candidate for the presidency and had agreed to undertake the mammoth task with the utmost reluctance.’

Seek help. The upcoming election has pushed you over the edge.

Because I see a similarity between Israel in 1st Samuel 8 and the United States in 2016? You think I'm over the edge?

Israel had God to be their protector, their leader, their provider, they're everything. The God of the universe. Yet they wanted a King like all of the various tribes around them. Eventually God gave them a King.... and through out the rest of their history before 70AD, the Kings robbed them and just served their own ego. (Except a few such as David). God gave them the kings they wanted and it destroyed their nation.

This country wants a King. For sure. We want a strong man who will "set things right". Who will "set things the way they should be." A strong king who will throw out all of the other elected officials, or all of the old ways. A strong king who will steal from the rich and give to the poor.... or a strong king who will reverse that. Two differing sides with differing wants, yet one thing in common. Both sides want a king.

I believe that. Call me over the edge if you want. But we are going to lose our constitutional republic. It is coming. It is what God gave us, but we are choosing something different, just like Israel chose different.

Yeah.. that's my opinion.

I’m sure that after nomination they hoped to win. But I was responding to the question “Can you name a president who did not want to be president, who did not seek it?”

Why would any sane person run for president if they didn’t really want to be president? Your statement is foolish.

I appreciate your quick reaction. It suggests that the line would work if Cruz would use it.

Trump's mother was born in Scotland. His father was born in NY but his paternal grandparents were both born in Germany. Trump has NO roots in the U.S. that go back more than two generations.

Cruz's father was born in Cuba. His mother was born in Delaware. His maternal grandparents were also both born in the U.S. His maternal grandmother, born in Delaware, was the child of immigrants hailing from Italy and Ireland. His maternal grandfather was born in Pennsylvania. His parents were born in Pennsylvania. His great grandfather's line tracks back to an Edward Darrragh who was born in Pennsylvania in 1851, which is as far back as a quick internet genealogy takes me. (Who Cruz might claim farther back, I don't know; could be interesting if anyone can find a source.) The other branch tracks back to an Ellen Haggerty, born in Pennsylvania in 1878; Ellen's parents were born in Ireland in 1848 and 1850.

Genealogy is not my thing and I may be garbling this a bit, but the point is, Cruz has a couple of generations seniority on Trump as an American. Don't tell Donald, or he'll flip his orange wig, soil his lederhosen, and barf up his last helping of haggis.

Trump is the newbie, American heritage wise.

I know all this is irrelevant to the fact that Cruz was born in Canada, but since when does strict linear logic have any standing in dealing with The Donald? If Trump wants to huff and puff about citizenship, Ted should smile and just say his family's been here longer than Donald's. And for what it's worth, the grandson, great grandson, and great great grandson of Pennsylvania and Delaware farmers and mill workers doesn't care to be lectured about citizenship by the grandson of German slum landlords from NYC.

It's an interesting matchup, identity politics-wise. Trump is German and Scottish, which are fine things to be. (My own family mix, as it happens.) Cruz is Hispanic, Italian, and Irish. Take your pick, but Cruz wins the food competition.
