Where Donald Trump’s support really comes from
The Economist ^ | Apr 20th 2016

Posted on 04/22/2016 6:59:38 AM PDT by detective

MOST analysis of Donald Trump’s support in the primary elections has focused on his appeal to poorer, working-class white voters, who are assumed to have lost the most to globalisation and are more open to his particular brand of populist politics. But his victory in the New York Republican primary on April 19th underscored his wider support across the party’s base. Mr Trump took 61% of the vote overall (the first time he has gained over 50%) winning across all demographic groups. That was to be expected in his home state. However, averaging out his support in all state primaries (where exit polling is available) shows that richer and better educated voters form as big a part of Mr Trump’s support base as those at the lower end of the income and education scales.

For His Anti-Trump Campaign, Ramos Turns to Anti-American Journalist

By Daniel Garza | April 22, 2016 | 9:35 AM EDT

Seeking to justify his open opposition to Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, Univision news anchor Jorge Ramos has enlisted the support of Glenn Greenwald, the leftist journalist best known for enabling Edward Snowden’s treasonous revelations of classified U.S. national security data and who is hailed by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow as “the left’s most fearless political commentator.”

During an interview on Fusion, Univision’s sister English-language network, Greenwald obliged Ramos, saying that Trump is such a “threat and danger” that journalists should not be neutral in their coverage of him, but rather “take a position” and “sound the alarms.”

“NY 2016 primary results by the numbers:

Clinton - 1,054083
Sanders - 763,469
Trump - 524,932”

The NY GOP primary is a closed primary and the requirements for registration are very strict.

There are simply far more Democrats and independents in NY than registered Republicans. That is why there are more voters in the Democrat primary.

In the general election a good percentage of these Democrats and independents would vote for Trump.

Trump is despised by 80% of Wisconsin GOP voters.

Romney/Ryan lost WI to Obama 53% to 46%. Ryan did not help very much being on the ticket in WI. WI has gone Dem in the last 7 Presidential elections. I have no doubt that Hillary will carry WI in 2016.

Cruz wouldn’t win WI, either.

No GOP candidate will win win deep blue states like New York.

So what did you do? Pop out of a time machine? Did you ever hear of someone called Ronald Reagan?

Just stop with this crap. Cruz can't even get a majority of real voters going into the convention and you guys are rewriting reality and history to fit this crazy narrative it'll all work out like you zealously hope?

yes but you have to have a certain level of naivety to accept the words of a billionaire who has given lots of money to politicians to buy political favors, including many democrats who then makes BIG promises but provides NO details. Now the details that are coming out are either not very well thought out (hence wanting to leave it so that men can invade women’s bathrooms at will) or quite liberal (lets add liberal language into the Republican platform to cover health of the mother, rape, incest). that language is the huge loophole the left uses to give abortions to all women.

I predict we are getting screwed and he will turn out to be a liberal and as vacuous as Obama. i said i would vote for him but i really dont want to.

Is that why the Scot’s hate him now? unfinished business.

To the contrary, it's refreshing to see a politician that openly admits it (and speaks freely on other topics).

Much better than a 2-faced politician that is always parsing words and spouting tired cliches and empty slogans.

“Not a single Bernie supporter will go to Trump.”

I disagree.

Hillary Clinton is very unpopular. A good percentage will vote for Trump.

Anyone have the numbers to show what per cent of the respective voters each candidate got?

What per cent of dems voted for cankles, and

What per cent of republicans voted for D. Trump?

My Nephew, a Bernie supporter, told me expressly, that if Sanders loses, he will vote for Trump.

That was 5 months ago. I did not ask him, he just told me. He said that his friends were like minded.

I do not understand it, but for me it is evidence that your remark is invalid.

Toothless and uneducated is how the media has portrayed Republicans for the past several elections. They couple that with the mantra about how smart the dims are.

He is getting a lot of respect by NOT taking their money even when pushed in his face.

And you know this how? He has a DONATE button on his website.

He may not be actively soliciting money but I really doubt he refusing to take any "money that being pushed in his face". Come on now. Get real.

Not a single Bernie Supporter will go to Cruz, either. If one does, it means your candidate, Ted Cruz, is a total abject socialist. Write them off for both, but don’t try to lop side this against Trump.

Hillary will have to spend a lot of money in NY to win, and Trump actually likes New York. Hillary is uncomfortable outside of Washington.

I have lived in and around NYC for all my 55+ years, save for two years of college in Boston.

Hitlery is as much a New Yorker as I'm a Texan. After all I did spend three days in Austin on a business trip. Fifteen years ago.

As a Texan, I think Trump has a very high probability of winning NY.

voted for Trump because he’s the only candidate with even a chance of kicking over stools that support a gargantuan, over-inflated, intrusive big government.

What part of government spending do you think he will cut?

Do you think net government spending will go down with no spending increases anywhere to offset the cuts you think are coming?

Gee. I was reading this morning that Trump loaned his campaign up to $36M. The only personal loaning I’ve seen for Ted is something about a million dollar loan from Goldman Sachs or somebody.

What is it we like to talk about round here? Something about Other Peoples’ Money (OPM) and money where your mouth is? You c’mon and get real.

I've heard him say that he'll overturn Obamacare and Common Core, build a wall, build up the military and raise taxes "on the rich" but haven't heard anything about abolishing any big government agencies or making government SMALLER in any way. Did I just miss that? Serious question.

“Trump is the weakest general election candidate we could field. “

So, you think someone else that can’t beat Trump with Republicans can do better when running with Republicans and Democrats in the general? Are you really that retarded??

Fair point. I think he’d look askance at EPA, IRS, possibly VA. But spending cuts? Not certain. Regulatory overreach is a more likely target.
