Middle-aged white people now account for a third of all suicides in the U.S., a new government report shows.
Suicide is the nation's 10th leading cause of death, and the overall rate rose 24 percent in 15 years, according to the report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Suicides have long been most common among white people — particularly older white males. But most striking in the new report is the growth in whites ages 45 to 64.
They were a third of suicide deaths in 2014, up from about a quarter in 1999.
"The findings in this report are extremely concerning," said Nadine Kaslow, an Emory University researcher and past president of the American Psychological Association.
The CDC data — released Friday — provides a detailed look at the latest year's suicide statistics, and a broader look at how much the situation has changed over 15 years.
There were nearly 43,000 U.S. suicides in 2014. More than 14,000 of them were middle-aged whites — twice the combined total for all blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Pacific Islanders, American Indians, and Alaska Natives.
In other terms — a group that represents 18 percent of the U.S. population accounted for 33 percent of the suicides.

The older white male cohort that always had a higher suicide rate was 55 to 70. This is the usual cohort plus some. Wonder how the stats are being cooked.
Fear of another democrat president could cause it.
That is the really sad thing about it.
Real men are trained not to cry, not to share feelings or, even in this sick censored PC world, political views.
There is nowhere for them to go unless they have a strong supportive family, faith and/or friends who make them feel worthwhile.
It is another reason why I've decided to join the local SAR group, mostly guys and their spouses older than me who care even less for political correctness. Building a network of people who inspire you is just as important as letting go of those which merely exploit you.
I fit this demographic. For me personally, the biggest single source of betrayal stems from White Women. I could care less about what any others have to say or what they think, but to me, white women are my mother, my sister, my wife and daughter. How did they come to hate me so much?
They don’t even realize that they hate me. Here is a small but easily observable example of something that is terribly difficult to describe to people. Have you ever seen a season of Survivor in which the men break off from the others to discuss forming a “men’s alliance”? Have you ever seen a season were the women didn’t do that at some point?
Now, I understand that this is a very small and petty thing to notice, but it’s deeper than that. This season when they did this one women said “I just want a women to win this thing”. I looked at my wife sitting next to me and simply asked “why”?
Women have won Survivor many times. Why would it matter? Why are they at war with me? Why have they aloud themselves to believe the lie that I mean them harm or that I would chose to limit them? Have I not loved them my entire life?
Why would women from my own tribe hold hatred for me in their hearts? Why is it that the men never even think to try and treat them in this manner?
If the women of Europe don’t change this very same attitude they will soon be slaves. I see no reason why it wouldn’t happen here as well.
I wash my hands of it all. I can’t convince them that I am not their enemy. Let it burn.

SUBMISSION is now a curse. Few will tell you it is a woman’s blessing. Hm. I wonder why Christian women haven’t revolted against women’s lib. That temptation is still too great? Satan has gotten far in the world to deceive. For me, a spiritual leader would be the place to start.

Does Cruz live so large in your head that you have to inject him into everything? It’s odd because my inclination is to link the suicides to Lord Foul and his seven year effort to destroy the White middle class. I see no link here to either of the Republicans running for the Presidency, sad that you do. If it was supposed to be a joke, let me say you are far from ready for prime time.
I must say it’s not unexpected news, Lord Foul and his minions have been destroying jobs held by White middle class workers for years. With benefits having run out and prospects few and far between, I was unemployed for over three years so I can understand, desperation and depression are a serious risk.
Thanks for posting this. Not a cheery thing, but one that needs to be talked about. I’ll be upfront and say I struggle with this from time to time...also periodic attacks of anxiety. I have never attempted, but I have made plans. I don’t have anyone to talk to about it, so I just hunker down and try to deal with it on my own. Sometimes the anxiety gets to a level where I’m not only feeling severe mental distress, but painful physical symptoms. Those times have been the worst, and I’ve just wished I could go to hospital to have someone care for me and make me better/whole.
The other thing that’s different now is that many men in the middle-aged cohort are veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq. It has to hurt bady to see all that your buddies die for completely destroyed and turned against the U.S. by the current admin.
Knew a former neighbor who told me I should get on Prozac, he said it’s great that his whole family was taking it, makes you where you don’t give a sh!t. I said but we’re supposed to give a sh!t. Not long after that his very successful son left his wife and little girls for another man.

100% agree. People are quick to blame the meds...
how many non-whites are non-citizens and numbers not counted. Also, elderly are very vulnerable and no autopsies are performed.
Whites are told by the elite in entertainment, politics, school, in the job force, etc. that they are expendable and inferior human beings. Like it or not, this is the way it is.
I’m guessing the hardest hit by Obamanomics.
